One of my favourite quotes following the 2012 US Presidential Election centred on this (taken from the comment section of a news website - don't remember which one):

Democrat supporter: U losse and sad for wanting a Mormon as our president
Republican supporter: first of all I'm not even going to argue with someone who can't spell "loose" correctly

Because of dyslexia. Not all brains work the same way.
And some have trouble with words that sound the same being spelled differently.
Spelling, especially in English, is pretty arbitrary.
Think Knight, Night, Nite. They sound the same. But are written differently. Some words that sound the same but mean different things are written the same way. And some words that sound the same have different spelling. That's not very logical, and some brains have trouble with that.

In other cases people just don't care, or are just dumb, or received little education. Mostly one of those four reasons. Or trolling.

I--- I didn't even know there was a difference. I attribute that one to being that most of the time 'breathe' is used with an 'ing', and when you remove that you're just left with 'breath'. Well, glad I'm found out before I ever made that mistake anyways.

I've been noticing this a lot lately myself. Don't really know why people make this mistake; perhaps autocorrect and their hurry to post things without proofreading first.

Loose and lose. Yikes.

Also, there's the waist-waste thing that makes me wince; but thankfully I've not seen it as often.

A few years ago, I saw someone post "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes" on one of the boards here. I had heard that was a common mistake but had just never seen it myself.

"Would of" instead of "would have" is my personal peeve. But I try not to care anymore.

Pretty much.

That and while most browsers have spellcheck nowadays, they don't have grammar check (like a word processor does) so things like that don't get caught.

Even "would of" isn't as infuriating as the time I saw somebody write "koo-day-tah." I get that not everyone has a a background in French, but come on.

^ While that made me chuckle, at least I easily figured out what it was supposed to be. If that person would have tried spelling it correctly, I'd guess that it would have baffled me for more than the one second or so that koo-day-tah took.

On the subject of foreign loan-words, I occasionally see "Wa-la!" instead of "Voila!", which is probably the one that bugs me the most.

I've seen "Wallah," which was also just silly. But then I am a bit biased in regards to French loanwords because growing up in Canada means I had some degree of French education in school, which isn't going to be the case for Americans.

It is a term that most people have probably heard spoken these days, since it's more likely to be experienced in audible media than read in a book or newspaper or something. Even then, it's more often just "coup," with the full term being pretty uncommon.

because their brains are so inferior that they think the first syllable has to be spelled "loo" because it sounds that way, and their shitty memories recall the word "loose" being an actual word (as it is), so they see nothing wrong with "loose" or "looser" instead of "loser."

It's unarguably an inferior intelligence thing. Those of even average intelligence could accidentally type "looser" instead of "loser" and instantaneously realize that it is incorrect.

This as well - it's another thing that anyone of even average intelligence could say/write and realize that it is incorrect just as soon as they've said/written it.

in the off occasion I mix those two up or there or their. its almost always a case of I started typing faster than my mind could determine which one was the proper one to use for the sentence. or I got distracted while typing as I am capable of typing while doing other things with my eyes like watch tv or talk to someone while maintaining eye contact with them.

funny though I made good grades in school, but I didn't stop mixing up there and their until grammar nazis became common on the internet. so as much as they annoy me I can at least be thankful for them on that.
