it's not, no. especially now that twitter's 280 characters. there's plenty of room to explain the position or just add in the lack of testing, which seems pretty ridiculous. those who know the basic STD numbers will be fine with what she said but those who try to ignore them/deflect them/deny them/are ignorant of them won't get what she means.

Pretty much. Like, I don't watch a lot of porn, don't know much about the behind the scenes workings, etc. So I'd have no idea they apparently test men in gay porn less

So to me, if I read that, my first thought is going to be "You don't know what the straight pornstars are doing in their private life, either. Is potentially being gay in their private life somehow worse?" because... Yeah, I'm just gonna assume they get tested like anybody else.

everyone should be able to choose who they have sex with, but you can still criticize that choice if it's discriminatory. If these people arr actually being tested before doing the straight sex scene (and I have no idea about any of this, maybe they're not?) then their previous gay sexing shouldn't matter.

obviously bullying a person to the point of suicide is not the appropriate level of criticism though. The bullies are terrible.

personally i'd like more info first. was this the straw that broke the camel's back? did something else happen after this to prompt it? was it a specific person or action that way bigger than the rest? we don't know the circumstances of her suicide and simply blaming it on mean/offensive twitter comments seems like an easy way to not actually get into what was going on. having a bunch of people doing 'go kill yourself' comments isn't going to make a reasonable person actually do it, something else made her become unreasonable. 100 random dudes ain't gonna matter as much as 1 business partner, 1 good friend, or 1 close family member - especially during the holidays. if you want to hold someone accountable, you first need to know the situation so you can determine who could be accountable.

like yes, it's 100% wrong to reject her choice to not fuck a dude. you can choose who to have/not have sex with for any reason, full stop. that entire train of thought 100% deserves to be mocked mercilessly, it's completely antithetical to the idea of supporting women's choices. similarly, the people who told her to kill herself absolutely deserve to have that flung back at their faces. not because they're responsible for her death (either morally or legally) but because they were being terrible people. it was their choice to use those words, they felt self-righteous when they did so, and if the only reason they're feeling bad is because she actually did it? fuck 'em, that's still a terrible person. that's just somebody feeling bad because they got caught being a shit, not somebody understanding that they are a shit. only way to know which one a person will fall to is by throwing it in their face.

Out of curiosity, I did a little more research on this.

Only about half of the studios specializing in gay sex do testing for this according to a few articles I found, although these were from a year to a few years old, so that may have changed. But apparently the main scare is that you must wait 14 days for an HIV test and 3-5 weeks for other STD tests, which means that there's a chance that you could become infected in those two weeks before you shoot.

There was actually a case of a guy who was unknowingly infected last year where he took the test, got infected, had sex with multiple men, then went on to have sex with a woman for a shoot and the men didn't get HIV, but the woman did.

For that reason alone, it seems reasonable that she would say no and have a negative outlook on this.

if we assume the 2016 gay population is consistent with all of this, that'd be somewhere between 15-19% of the 4-5 million gay/bi men (40-50% the LGBT population).

that's playing with a couple years' different numbers so i wouldn't say this is ironclad but it's pretty reliable numbers to play with and they don't seem to be that different.
