Doesn't really actually happen. For starters, there aren't many reasons why Americans would need to shower at school (colleges, afaik, have individual shower stalls) and, if any of my schools even had a shower (which it might have), I don't recall anybody ever using it.

I would shower after gym. In freshman year we had half a semester of swim, even though I would shower they put so much chlorine in the pool that everyone still smelled like the pool.

I think it happens less often than it used to. I graduated in 2001, and I never had to shower at school. I don't think I ever even saw anyone else do it. nobody used the showers. we just changed into shorts for gym. I never saw anyone with their underwear off.

Coach always made sure we were squeeky clean

the only time i ever showered at the high school around other people was when i had to take a semester of swim class. we showered after swimming but there were individual stalls for us to use so we didn't see each other naked.

I don't really know anybody who showered at school. We had gym class, but IIRC we only had a few minutes at the end to get changed back, so nobody showered. The only times I showered were on swim days, but we all just showered in our swim suits, and it was more to warm up than actually get clean.

I was held back 1 year before starting school. and my mom made me stay in for another year at the end too, to keep doing this work experience thing. but thanks for remembering my life details.

I have no attachment to the year 99 cause for 12 years I was just "class of 2000" and I always thought that was cool. I'm still a little annoyed that I got screwed out of graduating in 2000. I should have fought my mom on it. I saw the girl I dated when I was 16, at graduation. she was a year under me until I waited to graduate. and she saw me but didnt say anything. that was the last time I ever saw her. At least a friend of mine also was held back, but for different reasons I think.

They had showers at my school and I used them. They were gang showers.

We never had showers in our school so to actually have a shower at school seems strange to me.

I think it depends on the school. When I was in school we never showered after gym (although we did make sure to re-apply deodorant) unless it was after swim class. Even then, we still had our swimming trunks on when we showered.

I think the showers at my school were for the sports teams to use after practice / games, we didn't use them after gym.

I'd hop in the shower after football practice if I got super dirty/sweaty. The only time I showered during school hours was the half of a semester of swimming. We all left our trunks on tho to wash the chemicals out of them.

We had to shower after gym class at my high school. Right off the locker room was a large room full of showers. After we finished they'd give us a towel to dry off. Wasn't a big deal.

it didnt bother me when other guys popped in the shower room in the bathroom in my dorm. Its not just jocks that shower together.

Regular guys take showers together on campus. Its pretty normal. If it freaks you out that much then theres something wrong with you

We had showers in high school. Always used them after swimming, but it was also good to have them if you were outside running during when it was hot outside.

The towels they gave us were really thin and small, it would be soaking wet after just drying our hair. We did have a couple of hand blowers in the bathroom part of the locker room that we'd finish drying off with.

Not really. Plenty of schools don't have them and those that *do* tend to either have them be individual stalls or in places where it's expected you'll wear swim uniforms. It's often a bit obvious as to why as well. It's not like they're expecting students to live at the school and shower there in the morning after spending the night snoozing in the woodshop.

The high schools in my city don't all have pools about half of them did. My school had a bigger pool so a lot of swim competitions were held there.

Where I went only the high school had a pool. The really weird thing was that we also had a planetarium.

My HS had a pool when I went there, but it wasn't a common thing. I'm actually kind of surprised at how many other people have mentioned having swim class. Unfortunately they don't have the pool (or lots of other things) anymore since they did an extensive remodel :(

I'm not from the US but we showered at school after gym/PE or swimming.
I don't remember exactly but until I was 12 there was showering after gym.
Then the next school had showering optional so most people didn't.
And the next school had showering mandatory again, I think it depended on class or teacher.
After age 15/16 PE was usually scheduled as the last classes and everyone just went home to shower there.

anyway, in what country/culture don't they use the showers after gym at school?

We had showers in our high school locker rooms. People who didn't shower after gym class were considered dirts. There were some naked shenanigans, but I won't go into details beyond that because what happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room.

I never showered in gym. Before you comment, know that I also didn't do much in gym. I have never run a mile in my life and I hate sports.

This. Nobody ever showered in ours.

Though a kid was caught masturbating in it once and then into a drinking fountain. He was suspended then expelled, respectively. The best part was my buddy at a different school tells me some story about a kid getting expelled for jerking it and I ask is his name _____? Sure enough, it was. He was like how did you know?! Let me tell you a tale...

The swimming pool was always somewhere else, and used by different schools and other parties.

I never had to shower after gym class (just changed clothes), but my high school did have showers. Thankfully my gym class was at the end of the day, so in the event that I did get particularly sweaty, I could just go straight home afterward (but I always reapplied deodorant and changed back into normal clothes regardless). I think I maybe saw someone in the shower only one time in the locker room, but it was more of an acknowledgement that the water was on, so someone must've been in there (didn't see him directly).

But here's the disturbing thing about my high school showers. The shower heads were not positioned along the walls of the shower room like what you normally see. Instead, there were three or four cylindrical steel columns (roughly 8-10 inches in diameter) lined up about eight feet from each other down the middle of the long rectangular shower room, with the shower heads all sticking outward from the center of each column... So, if multiple people (more than four, so more than one person to a column) were to use the showers at the same time... they would all be facing inward - towards each other - while they showered... Yeah.

I decided on day one that, even in the event that I wanted/needed a shower after gym - it wasn't gonna happen.

My high school had showers in the locker rooms (back in '99; the school itself is now closed and scheduled for demolition), but they looked like they had not been used since the '70s.

The swimming pool was always somewhere else, and used by different schools and other parties.

Our pool was at the school and I know we weren't school in the region that had one. We were the only school with a diving pool though, so a lot of the swim competitions were held at our school.
