Board 8 > I just got a ps4, and I need help with game recommendations

So quick history. I got a ps2 back in 2001....and that has been my go to system for the past 16 years....I finally exhausted that library and decided to take the plunge and get a ps4.

I have 3 games to start with: Call of Duty: WWII, GTA V, and The Last of Us: Remastered. I also plan on getting The Last Guardian soon.

Now, I need some recommendations on your best most favoritest ps4 games. I won't have a lot of time to play, so I just want to play the best games out there. I like RPGs and shooters.

Also, I would like recommendations on one good 2-person offline game (Borderlands maybe? Doesn't have to be a shooter though) and one good driving/racing game (drive club? project cars?).

Borderlands is a fantastic 2-player offline game. Highly recommend you try it out. Start from #1 if you can, but the Handsome Collection is just fine to start with as well.

I can't recommend the Uncharted series enough. All of the games except the first are fantastic, especially 2 and 4. Play through all of them.

The re-imagining of Ratchet and Clank gives some good third person shooter gameplay. And I'm sure you're familiar with the franchise seeing as how you've exhausted the PS2 library. Also, try Killzone Shadow Fall for some solid FPS gameplay. The story mode in Shadow Fall is sufficient enough too, so multiplayer isn't all it has.

Persona 5 is probably the premier RPG on PS4. Play it.

I'm a big fan of Gravity Rush Remastered and Gravity Rush 2, but not everyone thinks those games are as good as I do, and they certainly do have their flaws. Maybe look into it a little bit before deciding if you want to try it.

Thanks for the recommendations so far! Now I just need to go rob a bank or something. Video game prices for the ps4 are quite a bit more expensive than the bargain deals I got on ps2 games, lol.

PS+ doesn't have the same volume of great releases it once did, but it's still a service worth subscribing to for the library of games it provides and additional discounts during sales. You probably got a free trial with your PS4; if you use it before tomorrow morning and download the November games, you'll have access to Bound and Worms Armageddon (the games out right now), and Darksiders 2 (the game out tomorrow.)

man. if you haven't bought a system since the PS2, that means you've missed out on indie games. Not just certain indie games, but all of them. you have so much ahead of you.

as for prices, the PS4 has deals all the time. There are flash sales monthly, usually on the last weekend of every month. It's a good excuse to catch up on older games on the cheap.

yeah, I missed like 2 whole generations of games pretty much. It's like coming out of a video game coma. I don't have a massive amount of time either. So instead of catching up on everything, which is impossible, I'm happy just making sure that the games I do choose to play are the best of the best, can't miss games.

ugh, I hope I'm not going to have to scrounge up money for a new tv, too. Popped in a game (with tv in game mode) and noticed a little input lag. I looked up some further tips on trimming input lag (switching hdmi port, turning off power saver and some other features, and connecting the controller thru wired connection). Hopefully by implementing those, it will trim the lag just enough to make it bearable.

Thanks again everyone. This is a good start. Persona 4 was one of my favs, so I'm definitely looking forward to Persona 5.

And with five people almost in a row there recommending Bloodborne, I'm definitely going to have to investigate that one. It wasn't even on my radar.

I'm generally a fan of final fantasy games. I'll probably consider getting XV down the road. But honestly, I only need a handful of games to get started. I gotta pace myself.

I'm currently playing Persona 5, and after 20 hours I've barely scratched the surface. So if you're short on time, playing that first may not be the best idea. Although it's totally worth it, for sure. Fantastic game, and that's coming from someone who's never played any Persona before.

Bloodborne is amazing but it has a very steep learning curve, especially since you've never played a Dark Souls game. Basically you'll die, a whole lot.
