Microsoft thought that we didn't want a 90s style collectathon platformer
And according to the reception that Yooka Laylee got, they were right :V

I enjoyed it.

But the best experience was the free demo multiplayer. It was super populated and building vehicles like that to play against others was amazing.

I would love if they made another game like it, but a Gaiden game after they give us a proper sequel lol

It's on the Rare Replay

I thought it was generally well received outside from the obvious shift in genres?

They made the levels too big to explore by foot, so the implemented vehicles. And then decided to give us something fun by letting us MAKE the vehicles instead.

Never played the game myself, so I can't say how well it worked, but the logic was sound.

I never beat it, but I don't remember it fixing the collectathon problem exactly. It just replaces moves and stuff with making different vehicles

I guess it just seemed like it could have been a different franchise. idk

I mean they bought Rare, might as well get some use out of those IP's aside from just a straight up HD port.
Too bad they didn't realize they were buying a dev company who's prime was over and didn't have anything good left in them.
