I don't know what those numbers mean and it's too late for me to be thinking about it....

The core clock speeds are slightly higher as you go along. The core clock speed being the CPU model speed number listed with higher usually being better.

Of the ones listed there, the 4590 is the best one to go with having the best clock speed:$$$ ratio.

Thanks trodi and zang. I'll see if I can find about the fan. But I can just use the one I currently have that came with my previous cpu right?

Also, looking at the pages, the 4590 and 4430 are both used while the 4460 is new. I would like to get them with Prime since I have Prime but none of them seem to qualify.

And reading the comments, they say the 4460 does come with a fan.

Generally, the higher the last three digits, the better. The first digit is the generation, and while a higher generation will typically beat a lower-generation CPU of a similar tier, if they're different tiers, the comparison gets trickier.

Why are you looking into buying 4-year old hardware that isn't relevant anymore?

What are you trying to do? I literally gave away a haswell system to a friend earlier this year because it didn't suit my needs anymore.
I also just built a PC for another friend and he seems to be enjoying it.

I would never recommend anyone buy anything but the latest generation of hardware. Intel definitely stagnated over the past 7 years but with the release of Coffee Lake these 4-core SKUs are going to get phased out pretty fast.

I would really appreciate if TC was more forward with what he was doing. If he's upgrading a Haswell system he could probably grab a used 4790k on the cheap. The only positive is that with RAM prices the way they are, getting DDR3 not a terrible idea.

But if he's trying to build a PC with a $500-$600 budget, getting a Ryzen 3 system is probably much better in the long run.

GPUs haven't made any progress because Nvidia does a ~20 month release cycle of hardware. Expect new GPU announcements around CES.

I don't need the latest generation cause I don't want to spend a crap ton on a single part. And the latest generation really isn't required.

Oh if that's the case all 3 of those processors should come with fans. The 4590 is has higher clock speeds than the other two.

I owned a 4460 for several years before giving it away. I don't know if the BIOS on your motherboard supports it out of the box because I think that H81 needs a BIOS update to support Haswell-Refresh.

I am believe the 4430 will support that motherboard out of the box.

Then a $100 stick of 8GB DDR4 RAM. Would have performed on-par if not better than a low end Haswell i5.

Low end got a huge bump recently with Ryzen 3. The processor competes with the G4560.

I tried buying a second 4GB stick before, it didn't work. Mostly cause the RAM I have in it isn't being sold anymore. This time I bought a HyperX and it looks like it'll at least keep being sold. My mobo has a max of 16GB so I figured I might as well buy a 8GB stick cause that'll at least be more RAM than I have.

If I knew why it did it, I would be know what I needed for that to not happen anymore.

So let's take something simple like just opening up a folder. When I play games that are a bit more graphically intensive, when I'm done playing them and open up a folder with let's say just pictures in it, it takes a little bit for it to load the folder. Specifically the thumbnails. Not like an outrageous amount of time but noticeably longer than if I tried to open that folder before closing the game.

In fact, PC's have done this to me before as well.
