Then do something to make sure that net neutrality isn't taken away, because that shit's probably gonna get blocked.

Back in the 70s and 80s people had to watch their Christy Canyon, Peter North, Sharon Kane hardcore porn in the sleazy movie theaters and jerk off there.
At least it's not like THAT anymore. :P

Not sure if this is the smartest or stupidest argument for net neutrality. On the one hand, porn is one of the least important things at stake. On the other hand, there's a strong overlap between people drinking the anti-net neutrality Kool-Aid and people who watch excessive amounts of porn

Yeah, it's sort of gone too far in a number of ways... I like it, but restricting may hold some unexpected silver-linings (but I'd still be pissed about all this if I lived in America).

The net neutrality bill became law. Seriously, all these chicken littles don't even know that the internet worked just fine for twenty five years before the government decided that excessive regulation was the solution to a one time issue between Comcast and Netflix. And frankly I sided with Comcast, and felt that the reporting of the issue was incredibly one sided. Companies have every right to dictate cost and quality of their service, and consumers have every right to go elsewhere. Limited competition in that industry is already a product of government intervention, so let's solve the problem with more government intervention.....

*listens to celebrities preaching to him of the importance of government in order to prevent implausible scenarios that never happened three years ago before said government regulation.... decides others are 'drinking the kool aid'*

porn is one of the least important things at stake.

To be fair, when you realize that almost every study done on Internet usage over the last few decades implies that porn is one of the main things (if not the #1 thing) most people use the Internet for (ie, when France first established the Minitel system, it was reported at one point that something like 80% of usage was porn related), it's actually a much stronger argument than a lot of the alternatives. Especially the more abstract ones that the average person either doesn't understand or doesn't care about at all. Porn might be the most important thing of all.

(And that's without getting into a discussion about how sex and porn have theoretically driven most major technological media advances in the last 50+ years or so.)

Even for stuff like "Well, it will hurt streaming video" or "It will harm online multiplayer video games", you'll get a LOT of "Ehh, I'll just go back to cable" or "I hate online multiplayer anyway, so you've just given me a reason to root FOR this" sort of replies.

But with porn, most people won't even want to admit that they look at it (in spite of the fact that most have and/or do), and very few people want to go back to a world where you risk embarrassment having to buy magazines or DVDs at a porn store, or worse, go to a theater to see it, so the availability, free-to-view, anonymity, and convenience of the Internet makes it the one form of media that really sells the idea of free unregulated Internet being a necessity.

Reminds me of Erik's hyperbolic claims about Trump reversing one of Obama's EOs where he claimed that the air was no longer going to be breathable... despite the fact that the EO had only existed less than a decade.

To be fair, most popular isn't the same thing as most important. =p

Given porn's tendency to misinform sex education and inspire addiction, it *might* be a good thing to have less of it.

Porn wouldn't get restricted. It's become to mainstream to do something that would be seen as puritanical about it. It's distinctly possible that the free Tube sites would get throttled though.
