That's what kills me about the gun community, they are such ideological purists I can't fucking stand them for more than 10 seconds. I'm generally pro-gun, as I am generally pro-free speech (I would expand both rights almost across the board). But because I'm not a wonky absolutist (as no one is.) I'm secretly anti-gun!!!! Fuck the gun community.

It was Democratic congresscritters who didn't want to vote for unpopular gun control because they know it does nothing to stop crime and they weren't risking losing reelection over it.

Gun dealers already have to run background checks on everyone who buys a gun, and you either have a record or you don't. You can't get "tougher" than that.

Here's a poll that puts it pretty much within margin of error of being dead even for the last seven years. Quite a far from from "90%"

You can get a poll to say whatever you want by asking the right question to the right group of people and feeding them the right information. At the moment we have a lot of people who think "semi automatic" means machine gun, that you can walk into gun shows and buy them no questions asked- completely legally. OF COURSE of you ask a bunch of people who think that, they're going to say we need more background checks.

The current problem with gun control is that the left completely blew it with the Las Vegas shooting. Between Nancy Pelosi saying that bump stocks were just the start and it would be a slippery slope, to Diane Feinstein saying no law would have stopped the shooting, to people figuring out that the Obama administration legalized rapid fire devices the Bush administration banned to blur the line between semi and full auto to confuse people... their gun control agenda fell apart in a hurry this time around.
