We've gotten a grand total of like two inches of snow so far this year. I mean, I kinda like the nice weather but I also sort of wish it would just be winter. Even when it is a warm day this time of year there's only like four hours where it's pleasant to be out so what's the point

Snow is almost a foreign concept to me. I've only been close enough to touch it twice in my life, otherwise I've only seen it on the tops of mountains sometimes.

I'll probably see Star Wars on opening weekend, but man, I don't think I feel the slightest bit of excitement about it. I was really hyped when TFA was coming out, but I'm experiencing series fatigue at this point and it's only going to get worse until the new trilogy finishes. Then you just know 10-20 years after that they'll probably come out with some entirely new set of movies and that'll continue until the end of time. It just feels too much like this big cash cow that exists to sell toys and make studio execs even richer.

Not that I'm saying that it's a new thing that it's a big moneymaker, but at least the original trilogy was some guy's passion project. It was a very cool thing for its moment in time (and it still holds up), but some of the things that made it great, like ambitious setpieces and special effects, are commonplace in movies now. Yeah, they can add new characters and stories, but it seems like they're recycling a lot of the same themes and character tropes.

Lol Browns

First possession of OT, their garbage QB Kizer was under pressure on third down and just threw up a jump ball in the middle of the field. There were like four Packers there and they intercepted it basically already in FG range

I think it's kind of poorly written but the action is great and the big Vader scene justifies the movie's existence. I need to see it again at some point to properly judge it. I saw TFA four times in the theater and will probably see Last Jedi at least twice, either to make sure it's still good or make sure it's still bad

Alan Trammell and Jack Morris got voted in the HOF by the veterans' committee. I know Morris somehow became the anti saber metrics community poster boy and that's why he got in, but can someone explain why they liked him better than Tommy John who didn't get voted in? Just looking at their stats it's no contest between Morris and John whether you use traditional or advanced metrics and his name is waaaay more famous

I don't think any Star Wars film is an exceptional example of good writing, but Rogue One takes the "plot armor" to even more ridiculous levels. And then of course everyone still dies anyway, it's unsatisfying. I think that writing a movie for a bunch of disposable characters is an inherently flawed premise, especially with the audience knowing the outcome of their main objective. At least the Han Solo movie doesn't have that issue so it should hopefully be a lot better.

Well I only saw it once but aren't there some close calls throughout the movie? And I guess I might be using "plot armor" too generally. I thought it could be applied to general suspension of disbelief that the heroes are able to succeed despite ridiculous circumstances. IIRC the planet gets blown up like two seconds after the plans finish downloading. That sounds plot armor-y to me, but if it's not then it's still pretty absurd

Well maybe I just don't know how to describe it. It was an entertaining movie, but it's just mindless entertainment. Of course you have to suspend some disbelief watching Star Wars films, but I feel like the other ones hold a little more weight to make up for it. Maybe that's because they are trilogies that give some space to get to know the characters and explore a wider range. Rogue One felt entirely self-contained, which is fine for most movies, but I guess I don't get it. Like was it supposed to be a prequel or a side story? It seemed like it was trying to be both at the same time, which didn't help it do a good job of being either.

The baseball hall of fame is way too weird, and both should likely be in.

And yeah, Morris is a hall-of-good guy rather than a hall of famer, but... meh? I'm tired of the Jack Morris argument at this point.
