My crazy Facebook uncle has gotten really crazy lately. Today he said whatever president is in office changes the way people think and Trump was turning people into bullies, but his example for what Bill Clinton did to change minds was "he destigmatized oral sex." Pretty weird comment dude.

Then later he posted on a George Takei thing (he loves that dumb Takei page) that said if this net neutrality dealie goes through that "the internet as we know it is dead." And he wrote: "The internet? If Trump is allowed to continue, we're all dead." Jesus dude it's ok to talk about something other than Trump every now and then!

I'll be seeing Star Wars on Thursday as well although I'm not really excited for it. I just want to hang out with my friends. I appreciate what the original trilogy did for movies and sci-fi, and it had a certain charm to it, but everything after that was an average movie or worse to me.

I started Super Metroid it's pretty cool it's like Metroid for NES but doesn't suck

I just learned about Wentz tearing his ACL and being replaced by Nick Foles. What the fuck is happening in that sport. We're going to end up with the entire Jeff Fisher qb cabal in the playoffs

I also just saw the bit where the Seahawks took some cheap shots at the Jaguars near the end of the game, and then when the fans threw stuff at an ejected player, he tried to climb into the stands and fight them.

It sucks that Wentz is out because now Brady is definitely winning MVP. Also now are like the Rams or some shit gonna go to the Super Bowl

No disrespect to Wentz but they could still win the nfc with Foles I think because after Brady leaves the nfl won't have any stars left besides Rodgers

The lack of star players in the NFL is staggeringly low right now. I think anyone could win. But it will be the Patriots because life sucks.

I just saw Stanton in pinstripes. It's an abomination of nature, like when you first saw Frieza transform into his final form and you know you're looking at too much power in the wrong hands.

Stanton going to the Yankees is awful but at least he won't be wreaking havoc at Coors Field every year now. If he went to the Giants that would be like ten games a year

how long does it usually take a high MLB draft pick to make it to the big leagues lineup on a regular basis? I was wondering about the #1 guy the twins picked last year

A few years, I think. It feels like lately there's been a lot of younger guys developing quicker than that, though. But I've always found it odd that guys will make it to the bigs when they're 24 or 25 when they're already close to their prime.

I'd say three or four years, and that's if they progress pretty well through the minors. There have been guys who did it sooner but afaik it's pretty rare. So I wouldn't expect to see your Twins guy at all next season

There's also the thing where teams will try to withhold a rookie for as long as possible unless they're a sure bet because once they start playing on the MLB roster, their contract starts ticking and then after a few years they'll get a higher salary in arbitration. So it's easier to just wait until they're fully ready so the team gets the best performance for the lowest price.

I've heard about that. The Twins owners are notoriously cheap and have been doing that with Buxon and Sano and some other guys the past few years.

Oh never mind. 19th in scoring defense. If we crack the top 15 we either win the Super Bowl or go 15-1 and have the least inspired divisional round game ever though. With Rodgers, of course.

Everyone does it with their stud prospects unless they need hem in some July. You'd be stupid not to in the front office but it's unfair to players who have already earned a promotion on merit and to players in general I guess

fair enough - I'll trust the experts on this one. The Twins owners being cheap is definitely a thing, so I'm interested to see if they do anything in free agency, and stuff

I wonder if it's truly worse than it has been in past years. I feel like we are so deep in fantasy sports, especially with the uprising of daily fantasy, that we become hyper aware of how mediocre the average player is.

Anyways, I honestly think this bodes well for Jacksonville. Their defense is full of beasts, and they have Leonard Fournette. They don't need Bortles to be great, they just need the opposing defense to be impatient.

Yeah, it's super rare to see a prospect playing at 20, and even then, they rarely get more than a cup of coffee. It sucks for young guys, but the league is set up in a way to screw anybody under the age of 26.

I think Slurpee makes a good point about being hyper aware of average players. I have Golden Tate on my team and I'm hyper aware of his high ceiling but consistently poor performances. There have been a ton of injuries to star players, but there are plenty of stars, and new rising stars (a lot of which have gotten injured)

The only two times Rodgers had a top 15 scoring defense were the year he won the Super Bowl and the year he went 15-1 apparently. I was trying to reference that but it came out as a confusing mess.

I just beat Super Metroid, and it was really good. First time in a long time that a classic game I heard about for so long actually lived up to the hype. I almost want to replay it already but I'll probably wait a while. Also, it's nice to play a Nintendo game that isn't full of their trademark goofiness (as charming as it can be) for a change.

Awesome game except for the quicksand

Do you remember what percentage you finished at? I got 83%, I think that's pretty good. All I was missing was just missile and bomb upgrades, so not a big deal.

And yeah, the quicksand jumping was weird. Wall jumping was also pretty non-intuitive at first but once I started to get the hang of it and got a few things early it made me feel like a badass

I don't remember. And I never wall jumped, it was too hard

Huh, well there's a pit where you can only get out by wall jumping. I saved there before I realized what it took to get out, so I had no choice but to learn. It's funny because I played this immediately after MMX, which is probably the worst game to precede Super Metroid with since its walljumping is so much easier

You mean the pit with the ostrich thing? You learn a super jump to get out of there, the ostrich thing teaches you if you follow its movements and repeat them

No, there is a pit where three gray Gengar-looking things wall jump out. I also found the ostrich one you're talking about though
