I think i can explain that thought process.

All humans are naturally endowed these rights by their Creator.

America is the nation closest to the Creator by virtue of 'Murica (much like a Civilization passive bonus).

Therefore, any human who goes against America in any way forfeits their rights accordingly.

It's no surprise, though. Given how even today people would gladly, proudly, and with enthusiasm deny gay people the right to get married because they find it 'icky' and it goes against THEIR religion. (Because apparently their religion holds ownership of marriage, despite it being a custom in many cultures. Never heard any complaints about Atheists getting married or Hindus. Funny how that works too.)

These things happen because we've got a culture that's way too forgiving of celebrities (and politicians are celebrities)

And it's not just sexual assault, either. It's EVERYTHING. People have very short memories. I doubt people will remember the Al Franken Story when he's up for reelection (I seriously doubt he steps down). I doubt people will remember the Roy Moore story when they go to the polls next month. People will forgive a celebrity for almost anything.
