Board 8 > Playing Resident Evil 4 (Spoilers)

So, you guys told me to play Resident Evil 4 next, and so I am.

Just entered the castle where I last left off.

I missed an achievement at the lake because I did not know about it. I thought I would get one for beating the boss there, none popped, and I looked and saw I missed it. Weak.

So far, I am having a lot of problems with keeping health items. Bullets is hit or miss. I have never really ran out at any point, but I have run out for specific guns. I learned to use my knife more after awhile.

How far am I? About half way?

The castle is a huge chunk of the game, but it is the middle section of the game.

Riot gun gets a lot of hate but against mobs it's imo the best shotty in the game by a large margin... versus bosses... kinda poo.

Honestly the Blacktail is my favorite handgun in the game, the handling and fire speed is my jam.

the more guns you have the more variety of bullets drop so if you have handgun/shutgun/smg/sniper all at once then you're going to get 4 different types of ammo

if you have only 2 types of guns then you'll get more bullets that you need

always aim for headshots, if you are not confident then aim for the knees and melee them afterwards, then just knife them on the ground

Use button prompts a lot yeah.

Shooting enemies in the head is great but making them drop to their knees or stagger can open them up to get melee'd, which is extremely safe, powerful, and will knock back an entire crowd.

also NEVER sell flash grenades, they are instant kill for enemies with the plagas popping out

I mean if you break it down like Village, Castle, Last Area I Won't Spoil and that last area is by far the shortest of the three, he should be approaching about midway after a bit in the castle

I did notice the bullet thing pretty early on. I only run a shotgun, handgun, and tmp. I sell rifle ammo that looks to be preset.

Rifle does get quite useful in spots so I might consider that over tmp but it really depends on your playstyle

Why do you think last area is shorter than village?

5-1, 5-2, and 5-4 are the 3 longest levels in the game probably.

And chapter 4 is much MUCH longer than chapter 3.

tmp's situational but great when it comes into it's territory rifles always good, but was... frankly broken op on Wii because of the wiimote aiming. Less precise on anything else makes it way less viable at mid - close range but still awesome.

I love sniper rifles.

Great damage against bosses and mini-bosses.. Easy OHKOs on annoying projectile enemies or particularly troublesome ones. Doesn't use up much ammo.

Red 9 is GOD on GameCube and Wii (granted for different reasons)!I'd actually argue the hand gun you can only get chapter 3 (I think) on is pretty clearly the best in those games.

Striker is better than Riot gun in every game, in every category except cool look.

I feel like RE4 gets disrespected in the difficulty department because it's SO damn good that half the internet has it memorized. I thought it was tough as hell back in 2005. I even found the HD release on the 360 challenging (in Professional mode) because by that point, I had been coddled by the Wii version's control scheme.

4-1 has gotta be up there. It's like an action flick in and of itself.

Anyway, some tipz:

- From chapter 3 onward, shooting enemies in the knee/shin gets you the suplex QTE (the "tell" is if an enemy drops to their knees for a second). This is highly damaging and has a chance for an insta-kill. Most people prefer this QTE because it looks badass and because it's the only regular attack in the game which can kill while also assuring that a plagas parasite won't pop out of the enemy. However, if can leave you vulnerable, as Leon only attacks one enemy and then stands up while potentially getting flanked by others ready to attack him.

- On the other hand, shooting an enemy in the face gets you the roundhouse kick QTE (the "tell" is if an enemy grabs their face in pain while staggering). I prefer this QTE because it has an AoE spread - if you cleverly position the enemies, Leon can kick like four of em at a time.

- All QTE attacks/actions make Leon invincible. If you initiate the kick/suplex, all attacks against Leon will be ignored by the game until the QTE animations are completed. This allows for some really aggressive gameplay, as you can shoot one enemy in the face, then rush up to him and throw a kick regardless of how many enemies are around him.

- For weapons with rarer ammo (magnums, rifles), it's advisable to use up your clip, and then instead of reloading... upgrade the capacity instead. It maxes out your capacity for free, which makes Magnums especially broken.

- You can get a free magnum in the game. Keep your eyes open for it.

- Always buy the treasure maps. Also, I believe the largest carrying case can be picked up in 3-3. Buy it asap.

- Enjoy one of the best games ever made.

I just bought a new case at 3-1 so that's probably it. I usually do the shoot in the face once. Kick then knife to death.

But the case at 3-1 isn't the last one. I think you'll get the final upgrade at the end of 3-3. I usually skip the one at 3-1 because I know the last one isn't that far away. You had no idea though, and I still think it's a good purchase.

Also, have you beaten 3-1 yet? I ask because the last segment is kinda infamous.

Well that's a lie stylistically I prefer the red9

But fully upgraded Blacktail fires like an Uzi, it's great

Overall though the best gun is the fully upgraded SAR

I beat the crank part. Took 4 tries. Not having any handgun ammo made it artificially harder as I kept blasting that dumb girl in the mouth with the TMP. lmfao

The Wii version is the only one that controls differently, and I feel that it might actually have the best controls on the whole console. Some say that it makes the game too easy (definitely makes it easier), but I think it's worth experiencing just for the fluidity of the controls.

Yeah, maybe. I was more interested in higher difficulty levels or other bonus content, cause yeah I think the controls are pretty okay on the GC. I'll keep it in mind should I ever see it at a steal, but lower priority that, I think.

Blacktail>Red 9 on all non Nintendo consoles. The blacktail was given an ENORMOUS power boost on all remakes, still weaker than the red 9, but really powerful. And the Red 9 loses enough accuracy not to be as good.

Howver on the Gamecube the difference between the final power of the 2 is massive. So Red 9 baby.

And on the Wii the Red 9 is better cause of motion control aiming making the accuracy not matter. So firepower all day baby

I did a Red9-only run a few years back and was surprised how easy it was. Fully upgraded, that thing can maul through the game.

Every subsequent version after GC includes Separate Ways (which follows Ada's side of the story), new costumes, and the new weapon P.R.L. 412.
