HK-47 is a straight up assassin bot, who was made by Revan and sent out on specific missions to kill Jedi.

And then he bounced from owner to owner who also sent him on assassination missions. He never collected bounties unless I missed something major.

What about Trails in the Sky characters? They're called bracers which is mostly analogous to police officers, but people still go to the Bracer's Guild to point out dangerous monsters and those are then posted on a board with a monetary bounty attached for any bracer to claim. That's basically a monster bounty. This is part of their occupation too, not just some sidequest thing. Meh I guess I'll just nominate someone and see if it sticks

but I guess the argument would be that, canonically, the become bounty hunters in order to make money for car repairs. The Hunters are also relevant in the story

Deadpool was a bounty hunter for approximately one issue during civil war. The rest of the time he's an assassin and mercenary. Taskmaster has never even come close to bounty hunting and is definitely a straight-up assassin. Leon is just a pure assassin as well.

Wasn't Wade Wilson essentially a bounty hunter before ever becoming Deadpool though?

Like wasn't Sister Margaret's School for Wayward Girls essentially just a place where bounty hunters came to take bounties?

although Bandit Keith was under Marik's control like Strings (though not to quite the same extent) so those two are basically the same boat. Arkana was definitely a bounty hunter though

Inspector Javert is the well-intentioned law enforcement officer (or detective, or Bounty Hunter) who honestly (if sometimes wrongly) believes that the hero is a bad guy and doggedly pursues him in a Stern Chase, seeking to get him.

this is probably the confusion cause of tv tropes's writing (Loltvtropes), it's referring to the type of character. He's a police officer.

I didn't say anything in the results topic because I thought, "It's probably a good category, even if I don't have any personal favorites." I think this nom topic has proven me wrong. It's a weak category that will only get weaker once all proper cuts are made, which will only hurt activity/interest.

Most of the cuts are either "X is an assassin" (already done) or "X is a mercenary" - so yeah, natural fit to combine.

I also don't think it's "too late" to consider modifying things. The whole reason it would be up for consideration is how lackluster this nom topic has been, which you couldn't have known for sure in advance.

So yeah, that's my suggestion. It lets people get in favorite/well known bounty hunters while still having a stronger contest with more participation, and because of the category overlap stays pretty true to the spirit of the noms.

And I don't remember the specifics of FF9 plot, but while Lani is a bounty hunter, the one mission Amarant does with her is a contract from Brahne.

It is too late though. You'd have to scrap the entire nominations topic which I'm just not going to do. None of you nominated Mercenaries either when you had 2 weeks to do so. The only really active players that have nominated it are Stifled and cyan. The characters I removed were MOSTLY one off characters who STILL wouldn't fit if the categories were combined. HK-47 is still not a Mercenary. Neither is Leon. None of the characters I eliminated were except Kano and probably Deadpool. It would be downright silly to combine them so I could include two characters.

Lani is also listed as a bounty hunter by the FF Wikia, which is a sacred text. I don't really mind Amarant staying in, there's enough there to let him remain really.

WRT Deadpool.

He's done Bounty Hunting but it's by no means his primary thing. I would think of him as an assassin and as a merc way before as a bounty hunter.

He's never really been a "going after criminals exclusively" type person so I'd just cut him. The times he was going after criminals only(Uncanny X-Force is a big one) he didn't even end up cashing the checks he was being paid to do so which like...

EDIT: Wade Wilson pre-Deadpool I could see going either way but I would still call a merc over a bounty hunter. CIA sponsored people who take out who the CIA wants... Typically by killing them? That doesn't read as bounty hunting to me. At least WRT the comics. The movie didn't give me the impression of bounty hunting over general fucking around with scumbags and iirc he had a line specifically he chose to only take jobs going after bad people which would suggest that the employment, in general, didn't have that, which would imo make it not bounty hunting.
