I could have sworn they say wouldn't do this, but okay. I doubt I'll do it. WoW is something that I have fond memories of, but I doubt it would hold up under scrutiny. Fair enough for anyone who wants to replay it or experience it for the first time, but I basically did everything in classic WoW I ever wanted to do except Naxx, and no way am I leveling a character to 60 and finding ultra high tier gear for a single raid.

Blizzard was saving people from themselves by not having a vanilla WoW server. Caving to people like this just shows their ideas are starting to run thin.

Even most of the people clamoring for a vanilla WoW server don't really want a Vanilla WoW server. They honestly just don't know what they are getting into. Vanilla WoW was a bad game and it hasn't aged any better.

Granted, the actual WoW expansion looks like shit too, so I guess it doesn't matter.

It's strange that it took so long to bring Kul'Tiras into the game. People have wanted it for ages. The only other big thing I can think of that people have wanted to see since 2004 is the naga queen.

vanilla wow has so much tedious shit, this is totally unappealing

if it's free with a normal WoW subscription I might look at it briefly out of curiousity, but there's no way I'd spend much time with it

Vanilla was so rough around the edges and slow. Definitely only a game I played cuz I was bored in high school.

I asked someone who used to play and he said that the expansions pre-Cataclysm were a lot better than vanilla, and he doesn't have anything like the time to raid anymore either.

I think the people saying Blizzard was saving people from Vanilla WoW forget that Blizzard tore down Vanilla WoW servers with tens out thousands of players two years ago and people were piiiiiiiissed.

Ideal for me would be a late-BC era server. And I'd be happy to play vanilla WoW if I could just pop in once in a while, but if I have to subscribe, that's a different story. I'm not paying $15/mo for that any more. Not only is that an antiquated system, but it's really only ideal for people who are playing at least 10 hours a week, which I really don't intend to.

OTOH, maybe I'll go back to doing some of my speed leveling runs. I had written guides and everything.

Unclear at this point, they haven't provided details about if it's the original release, or a like the latest patch pre-BC or something in between. Also don't know if the later visual enhancements will be in. Really no info at all at this point.

Baaically. I don't know how much information is out there yet. Haven't looked into it. But yeah there's been drama in recent years over people running private servers of the original version of the game, then having those servers basically get snuffed out by Blizzard. There would be dozens of thousands of people playing on them. Not really sure about exact numbers.

Blizzard always said they'd never support an official vanilla server, but looks like popular demand (and like red said, perhaps running out of ideas) finally won out.

Speaking of WoW, I haven't played in a few expansion BUT

I SWEAR I remember them saying that Legions was going to be the LAST expansion. Then over the weekend I saw things for the new expansion on my feed and am confused. Did they change their mind or did I make up the fact that Legion was supposed to be the end

I don't think they ever said that. but I haven't been keeping up with any news on the game since right before Legion came out.

I do remember a quip from someone who worked on the game a few years ago saying they were "sure" they'd be around for at least 20 more years, though.

My brother is one of those people. I don't THINK they made any changes (it was straight vanilla), but that's exactly what he wanted. He was pretty excited for this news so I asked him if he'd pay when he's been playing free on unofficial servers for a while, and he said it was worth it since the unofficial servers always risked a Blizzard shutdown, which meant the players would obviously lose their characters.
