You know that feeling when you get really excited for a game coming out?

For me, that game was Zelda: twilight princess. Back then I was but a simple high schooler. That initial trailer with Link fighting that giant army on horseback got me so amped up... I'd frequently watch the trailer and daydream about how amazing the game was going to be. Heck, my girlfriend and I even had sex to the music in the trailer. I felt absolutely crushed by all the delays. And... when it finally came out...

I was moderately disappointed. that big fight from the trailer never happened, and a lot of the other stuff in the trailer never made it to the final game. Still had a lot of fun with it though.

I've been excited about many other games since then... other Zelda games, skyrim, GTA5 etc... but nothing nearly as much as Twilight princess.

BotW, which totally delivered in some respects but dropped the ball in others.

Persona 5 which did not disappoint

Then there was FFXV which did the complete opposite. Still not past the 3 hour mark

E3 2015 and D23 back in July were just pure hype for me and its respective message board (it's a wasteland now).

2018 is going to great.

I think I gave the most hype to Resident Evil 4.

It started with the REmake on GC, and when I began seeing the stories and previews for RE4 in Game Informer, I was so mystified. I wasn't on the internet as much back then too so the mystery was even more. I was scared of the chainsaw dude before I even fought him. Once that game came out - I loved it. Played it so many times over and my friend would come over to watch (because he hated playing scary games). Looking back - I still love that game, but the only gripe I had about it was the AI with Ashley following you or having to protect her. The QTE active cutscenes were cool for the time, but now I can't stand them in a game.

I was really hyped for an MMO called Horizons. it was originally going to be the most ambitious game ever created. like a true virtual living world. but like 99% of the promised features were canceled by the time the game was finished. it was just a generic fantasy game. pissed me off so much. the actual hypothetical version was gonna be the best video game ever made in human history

wii sports mainly because of how difficult it was to get a wii around launch and i was able to get one. botw most recently but i was easily able to preorder that

yea maybe. Horizons was like the early 2000's version of No Man's Sky. both games turned out to be pretty big lies

Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It had such a good lead up with the dojo and what not. It was a fun time watching it come together.

Runner up would probably be Sonic Heroes. Which did not end well. Ugh.

I think diablo 3 was the only game Ive ever been really hyped for. Other than cod since my friends play it, its been the only game Ive pre ordered and played (or at least tried) to play on release. Damn shame I had to work early the next morning so I didnt get much play time and it eventually lead to be pretty disappointing anyways.

Probably MvC2 on the Dreamcast. I ended up waiting at an EB Games for about 4 hours for the shipping guy to show up, after spending weeks on here and the old Capcom BBS talking about it with others. It's actually the reason I even started using the message boards here. The following three days, I probably had about 6 hours of sleep and basically did nothing except play the game.

I loved RE5, with RE2 being the only series entry I enjoyed me. I do not understand all the hate it received. It was amazing! I love this music video somebody put together with "locking up the sun" playing, but I can't seem to find it. They matched the sequences to the music amazingly... I wish I could find it again.

Edit: it's called "locking up the evil" and YouTube doesn't have it but Google turns up results elsewhere.

I remember being really hyped up for OoT but I might be remembering wrong and mixing that up with my memories of actually playing it. I did have hype for it, but I think it was mostly from having a game magazine as a kid that just happened to be an issue with a very early OoT preview. I wasn't really even a Zelda fan yet, having only played the first two at the time and finding them way too hard to beat.

It's either that or BotW, but even with my BotW hype I knew at that point no game is possibly going to be the same kind of experience as playing a game like OoT at 8 years old

probably because it ditched survival horror for action thriller

which im okay with. if 6 was just 5 and focused on just two people it would have sold gangbusters

instead we got the 6 we did, and now they rebooted the series.

Kingdom Hearts 2. From the "deep dive" secret trailer at the end of Kingdom Hearts all the way up until Kingdom Hearts 2 came out I felt hyped af. Of course when I got the game at long last I felt like a kid at Christmas. No game has got me that excited since then and I doubt I ever will again. Even Kingdom Hearts 3, as much as I'm looking forward to it isn't getting me as hyped as KH 2 did.

I was...15? Holy shit

But yeah, this was the first game I stood outside until midnight for. I still remember the anxiety of not knowing if I was going to be able to pick it up or not without my uncle being there.

Was able to get it without him being there, stood outside with my best friend until my uncle picked us up. Probably played through most of the campaign as soon as we got back to my house.

Ocarina of Time.
Most of you here aren't old enough to have been there for its launch.
I was 12 years old and can remember reading EGM and Nintendo Power and getting so hyped for it. I remember seeing the commercial a couple days before and just going ape-s**t.
And boy did it ever deliver on that hype.

Majora's Mask. Loved OoT and was stoked that another Zelda was making its way to the 64. Wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it was definitely a good time.
