Have you ever gone in a sewer pipe before?

22 y/o Bret Morrow from Gurnee, Illinois was killed after he got trapped in a 20 inch wide SEWER PIPE!!

He was an avid rugby player who went down a manhole to reinforce a 2 foot wide pipe with fiber glass lining spray when he got trapped in there

Firefighters entered the 20 foot manhole and saw his boots but it took 4 hours to get him out but it was too late

Fire Chief Christopher Clark said "That lining or material was bunched up at the bottom of the manhole. So the firefighters were not able to get down the pipe to access him without cutting a lot of the lining out"

He was pronounced dead at 10:32pm as an autopsy will determine how he died

His teammate, Erik Miller said "It's like losing a brother. He brought so much more than just rugby talent to our team and our community"

A gofundme page has been created to set up for funeral costs...

It sounds like he was just doing his job, in which case more of the blame lies on his employer for sending him into a dangerous situation without adequate precautions. There's nothing particularly idiotic about trusting somebody with vastly more experience than you when they say a particular aspect of the job is safer than you think it is.

Yes, storm sewers.

When I was a kid they were building a housing development next to my neighborhood, and my friends and I would go down in the pipes to catch polliwogs. It was on weekends when it wasnt an active construction site, and I got caught and took a beating from my stepfather which effectively put the kibosh on those adventures.

When I was in high school I worked concrete construction and would work on a lot of box culverts for storm drainage systems. Spent some time in the pipes doing that, too. But again, those werent active sewer systems.

I wonder what killed him. Four hours will seem like an eternity when you're stuck in a pipe, I'm sure, but I wouldn't think that would be long enough to kill someone.
