1) specially since I can get stuff much cheaper if made by chinese factory workers?

2) Thanks to them, clothing, simple tools and electronics have basically stayed the same price since the mid 90s while food and housing have gone trough the roof!

3) Also why would I want chinese workers to loose their jobs so people from my country get hired instead?...that is if companies don't decide to just use robots instead..... why would I care for people I do not know in my country more than people that I do not know in another country?

4) Specially since protectionism is like Communism it always fails it has never been implemented successfully anywhere Look at brazil or ...look at Argentina it was the 7th richest country in the world early to mid 20th century and protectionism ruined their economy..argentinians fly here to buy stuff since it's to expensive down there due to tarifs...if we get tarifs then it will be americans flying to argentina itself.

5) Actually ..... Unemployment is even lower today than in the 80s and 70s in 2016 was 4.9% while it was 7.0% in 1986 and 7.7 %in 1976 before we got the largest trade deals and china began to send more stuff......so in the end free trade actually created more employment and whoever denies it is just a coocko tinfoil hat believer of the globalist elite conspiracy theory . https://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet

6) if America implements tarrifs, other countries will place tarifs on us and american companies will get destroyed overseas

Because unemployment means that the unemployed workers will need food stamps and housing subsidies which increases the debt or means more taxes. Also the unemployed workers will spend less meaning small business's or local business's will sell less.

Because in my experience Chinese made stuff is usually cheap crap while the American made stuff lasts forever.

I have a set of American made wrenches that my grandfather bought when he started working in construction in the 60's that still work great to this day, while the Chinese adjustable wrench I bought less then a year ago broke when I was trying to disconnect my sink from the wall. I am willing to spend extra if I know I won't have to make the purchase again in the near future.

that is because of infration of food and housing...

even on jobs that cannotr be outsourced people were able to pay for a house back then, yet if you notice thre has been a trade off

back then buying a house was easy, but very few people had more than one care or more than one tv now its the other way around

Personally for me, it really depends on the product. Stuff like hand-tools that I expect to last about forever I would buy America and thus Craftsman is my go-to brand. Stuff that I expect wear-n-tear on (i.e. clothing, shoes, etc.) I'll buy from wherever so long as I feel I am getting my money's worth.

On another note, does it seem more accurate to describe products as "Assembled in X" instead of "Made in X" nowadays? Raw material are traded throughout the world. My own Subaru Outback is assembled in Indiana but the parts are shipped over from Japan. Of all the products made in the United States, were all the parts also bought from within the United States?

As a drafter and civil engineer I am probably between 1.9% and 52.3%

Jokes aside, friend and I briefly talked about this. He feels it is unfortunate some folks will be left in the dust but at the same time he feels society as a whole cannot hold back itself in the name of progress and improving efficiency.

Funny enough, my coworker use to be a mechanic and said he and his shop hated working on American cars whereas Japanese cars were simple and straight forward to work on.

Which I find funny because my grandfather has had 3 Ford trucks that I can remember, and all of them lasted 20 years with no major problems.

My friends Toyota needed a new frame 5 years after he bought it new.

Not that I deny your claim but we outta compare apples to apples. How does modern vehicles of one type from one brand compare to modern vehicles of the same type from another brand. I feel older vehicles overall mighta been better built compared to modern vehicles.

Found this neat little Blog though $1,000 per year seems kinda high unless he is replacing major parts once a year. Motor oil, oil filter, air filter, tires, and wipers normally wouldn't add up that much. But then again, if he is driving a lot I can see those parts being frequently changed.

Trucks are a different animal, as noted by the Hilux. If you use a workhorse to go to the shops, your vehicle is overengineered for the purpose.

While you would need a new frame on any car when you total it.
