If you're asking why no major publisher is making them, they claimed there was no longer a market for platformers. I'm a huge n64 and Rare fanboy and DK64 was fun at the time, but was almost a chore to complete. Tried playing it again a couple years ago and just couldn't do it. Gameplay is clunky and it just doesn't feel polished like BK or BT (both of which I recently beat in the last two years and thoroughly enjoyed). Making a better game than it would be hard. 3D collectathon platformers have generally fallen out of vogue since gen 5/early gen 6, though, particularly with Rare collapsing. Their place has kind of been taken by open-world games, which share a lot of common elements (namely the emphasis on exploration to find arbitrary stuff), but that's still not the same. --- This is my signature.
