After they killed the 3rd party programs last year I wasn't able to find a working substitute. The normal program always closed itself on me.

I'll use the next two months to take care of finding a way to keep contact with the seven people I talk to over AIM. Most of them use this site and/or have a Trillian account tied to their AIM (two at my insistence). The two that don't... one I have a phone number for. The other I'll have to figure something out.

RIP AIM. It's been a great 18 years we've spent together.

i used it for a long time, only stopped last year after they stopped supporting their third party api- their default client is horrible

i found pidgin + aim to be super useful for group chats with friends & co-workers

discord & slack are pretty good replacements nowadays

Pretty much this. There's only one person I ever chat with thru AIM these days, and we're both on discord now.

Yeah, the Discord server was set up about 2 years ago before AIM was discontinued, so we did not face the situation of being forced into searching for an alternative to AIM for our Board 8 chat.

I'm gonna miss AIM. I'd been using it for almost two decades now, and I honestly preferred it over a lot of other messengers.

Granted, I was using Pidgin to use AIM with, since I preferred the interface (even long after I stopped using all of my other accounts for Pidgin).

And since Skype is an untrustworthy piece of shit, I'm basically going to be using Discord and Steam for instant messaging from now on.
