These people are habitual criminals. They commit murder, assault, and rape, just to name a few of their proven charges. They are not statistically even good compared to the greats and they all think they're the reincarnation of Christ.

The crime rate is LOWER for NFL player then other males in their age group.

In whose age group?

This is floating to the top of Reddit right now. Though, I dislike the difference in "abusing" and "exercising."

I agree, the language is very leading and dishonest. However, his write up was "sort-of" abuse because he was essentially calling his co-workers AA hires. Of course, that's not abusing free speech. (Which by definition, may not even be possible.)

Agreed. If the creator of that meme would have just put "exercising" in both scenarios the point would be stronger. But NOOOO, gotta toss in a little bias.

The other problem is you can switch shouldn't to should in the left-hand image and should for shouldn't in the right-hand image, which is what many people were/are supporting. A lot of people wanted that Google guy fired because they felt offended by his questions and comments, and his capacity (AKA "freedom") to voice his views did not matter. All of a sudden, the NFL situation with their employees is... different.

Edit: tennisdude818 posted a somewhat similar response.

The owners. Are SCARED. Of. The PLAYERS

not even going to touch the rest of your dumbass post

However in regards to this, there is actually a bit of this going on on with both the owners and the players. We have players like Dez Bryant citing wanting to respect the owner / not mess up the money he's getting as at least being part of the reason he himself hasn't taken a knee.

But obviously the owners are scared of the players to some degree too. They know that cutting a player over this protest will simply spark other players to kneel and a good deal of negative public reaction. And unfortunately for them, they can't simply replace their employees as easily as most other employers could. Hypothetically if a large percentage of players individually decided to kneel, what are they going to do? Cut them all and almost assuredly set their franchise back?

Yep. Call up some hungry prospects who want to play rather than act.

The issue isn't finding people to play, the issue is actually fielding a competitive team.

The Google comparison is a bad one because the government was never involved. The employees were not protesting the government, and the government was not advising Google on how to handle the protest.

The NFL situation is about the first amendment in a much more fundamental sense, because it does involve the government. Everything about the flag and anthem is political. If people stand or kneel, either way, it's a political statement. And you have a very high government official in the president advising the NFL to fire employees for dissent in the ranks. Which means the only option approved by the president is compulsory patriotism. Which is not patriotism. The NFL is still welcome to fire players, but since the president stuck his nose into the situation, now there will be this lingering residue of coercion if they do fire anybody. Basically, if the president had just kept his mouth shut, nobody would be kneeling and the issue as it currently exists wouldn't exist. But when the government commands obedience as though the people are pet dogs, as though loyalty is something to be demanded rather than earned, the only appropriate reaction is disobedience.

Wait, are you implying that Google's reaction was not a form of politics or that, for example, the current state of affairs with Trump's tweets and high-profile campaigns by groups like BLM and Antifa have not helped mold a situation where it is politically incorrect to not fully support Google's diversity hiring practices without question or dissent?

With regards to Trump's comments about protesting the flag, why are you using words like compulsory and command? Are these athletes and their supporters not essentially telling Trump to fuck off? Also, why are you singling out the flag and anthem as political, as if it's unique? EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL NOW OR IT WILL BE. The Oscar awards show is political, Katy Perry is political, the fucking bathrooms are political. Oh, yeah, the NFL... that was definitely political when Kaepernick wore socks with an image of a pig wearing a police cap.

They are, which is good. Being able to criticize the government is a core American tenet, and by voicing their dissent with peaceful protest, they are upholding the flag's legacy with far more integrity than the people demanding them to stand or be fired.

As for saying everything is politics, that's true but also trite and doesn't get to the heart of the issue on the table. The issue is that there's a fundamental difference between when private citizens discuss politics with each other, and when the government instructs people how they should be allowed to discuss politics. The government needs to tread carefully or else people will bite back, as they should.

They do and thats why books like Who Moved My Cheese stayed on New York Times business best seller list for nearly 5 years. They make us read 4 of these corporate propaganda books a year and submit a book report on them where I work. It helps keep the peasants in line when cutbacks and downsizing occurs.

Let's see, there's the practice squads that don't play in games, the CFL, and college athletes passed over. PLUS the league in Europe that sprung up when NFL Europe collapsed.

Moreover, Americans are obnoxiously obsessed with football. Most of them wouldn't be able to tell the difference so long as they can drink, eat cheesy poofs, and then talk about it the next day at work.

I'm not sure how any of that proves me wrong. None are anywhere close to as popular as the NFL.
