I remember the biggest reason being "when I tune into football it's to ignore politics and the real world"

So why is that different? Dumb liberals

Why were conservatives so supportive of him? I thought they came to sports for escapism and to get away from all the politics and religion and what not.

What did Tebow ever do that was disrespectful or deserving of condemnation? The people who attacked him did so only because he was an unapologetic Christian white man, and they feel it's impossible to be bigoted against those groups.

He was attention seeking, obnoxious, childish, and a shitty quarterback. And he was the kind of guy that interjected god into everything. People are similarly critical of players who "thank god" for an amazing catch or a great defensive play.

as long as y'all know y'all are hypocrites.

but it's also important to keep perspective. Liberals didn't call for the dude to leave the country. They didn't spend a weekend talking about it, threatening to boycott sports, making dumb uninformed FB posts about what qualifies as free speech.

They just made snarky posts here and there because Christians are easy targets.

Yes. The criticism of Tebow was nothing more than "Lol this guy acts like a dorky virgin, and he sucks at football." Hard to compare that to the vitriol that Kaepernick gets.

As opposed to the players who are now injecting the BLM/SJW agenda into everything. "I'm going to kneel for the anthem. It's a miracle that none of the black player were murdered by the evil police on their way to the game today."

Tebow took a knee to pray. Libs called him a dope and told him to keep that crap out of football. Conservatives said he was a true Christian role model

People take a knee now in protest. Conservatives call them unpatriotic and to keep that crap out of football. Libs say they are expressing themselves peacefully and it's all cool.

How I remember it:
Conservatives: TEBOW GOT SCREWED! All you liberals hate him because he is Christian!
Liberals: Lol, he is not a starting caliber NFL quarterback. He is a real athletic talent, why doesn't he change positions to full back or tight end?
Conservatives: SEE! You hate that he is a Christian!
Liberals: Lol, he got cut from the Jets with Mark Sanchez starting. Doesn't that say something?
Conservatives: YOU WON'T GIVE HIM A CHANCE!

etc.
I remember liberals being critical about his QB skills at an NFL level. Nothing else. Everyone acknowledge he was a great college QB but the NFL game is different and Tebow was unwilling or unable to make changes to stay in the league.

My impression of him is he felt it was his mission from God to be a starting QB at the NFL level and have a platform to preach God. He may still be in the NFL if he was willing to move to a position other than QB.

As a Christian, I disliked what he was doing because it was the kind of behavior that Jesus spoke out against in Matthew 6:5. Making a big scene while praying so you are heard by men and not by God.

Perhaps.

People often follow stereotypes, too. A notable portion of 'unapologetic' Christians in the limelight end up being sex offenders, liars, etc. I'm willing to bet a lot of people associated his demeanor with someone who would end up diddling 15 year old boys or something along those lines.

A "notable" portion of unapologetic Christians end up being sex offenders? That sounds no different than saying a notable portion of unapologetic Muslims end up being terrorists. Ridiculous and just goes prove Admiral's point even more.

I have actually followed Tebow's career and by almost all accounts he's a real stand up guy off the field. Not to mention the determination and work ethic he exuded on the field that should be an inspiration to us all. Here you had a below average quarterback who's one of the worst throwers of the football we had ever seen and yet he willed his team to a winning season and a playoff victory. He showed that sometimes heart is more valuable than pure skill. Seriously, just go look up some of his games when he started for the Broncos, dude was like Jesus on the football field pullin out one miraculous win after another

I had no problem him "tebowing", the only complaint I had of him was when he wrote John 3:16 under his eyes because that kind of defeats the purpose in having a "eye black".

I found Tebow extremely entertaining tbh. He would be ineffective for the vast majority of the game and then pull off a couple of miracle plays at the end to grab the victory. That year he brought the Broncos to the playoffs and beat the Steelers in OT on Wild Card weekend was absolute magic.

It was just hilarious to see him win so much possibly by divine intervention and possibly by an elite kicker and a great defense.

People bring up Tebow is funny as shit. There is like an FCA or some organization on the NFL level that get in group and pray at the end of each game with each other. People have always taken a knee after TDs. And right wingers like Terry Bradshaw complained about it.

People didnt want politics and religion in football, even though it was all the media and not Tebow. Nobody wanted a not so skilled guy with media drama following him.

Weird how many hypocrites we have in this country since now all the NFL is is politics and religion. If only Tebow came to the pros now, hed be a hero!!
