Do you care?

I personally do not care as Toys R Us has overpriced forever in attempts to prey on parents. They lost customers when amazon came out with lower prices and then increased them more to try and offset lost sales instead of realizing they needed to lower prices.

I personally think Toys R Us has dug their own grave.

Bankruptcy as in closing all their stores or bankruptcy as in Chapter 11?

I haven't cared about the store in years, though, seeing as they're rather overpriced.

They are trying to remain open but almost all vendors have refused to deal with Toys R Us unless they have cash in hand at this point.

They have some good deals sometimes.
I read this a few days ago.

I miss when they used to look like a warehouse and you would have to pick up a paper slip to bring to the register to buy video games. That isle with all the cases/boxes cut out was so cool looking.

They still have the slips and warehouse look at a store in Yuma Arizona believe it or not. It was a nice reminiscing moment when I was in it.

I haven't seen a Toys R Us store in years. Last one in this area closed down at least a decade ago.

Not really. It's one of those 'bummer, this thing I know from childhood isn't around anymore' things, but nothing that actually affects me.

The last Toys R Us in my area is a dump. Parking lot is old and worn down. There's maybe two or three people working at all times, including the manager. Pretty much the only people I see shop there are old people who still don't know how to use the internet buying toys for their grandkids.

I have a lot of nostalgia for TRU, and good ones tend to have much better stock than other stores. They used to have crazy good sales on diapers and baby food, so we'd go there all the time.

TRU used to have a bad markup, though I think it's a little better now.

Stores like that are screwed because of ipads and Nintendo and Amazon etc.

Kids at the age of 2 get an iPad that keeps them more entertained than toys ever would.

But every retail store has been filing for bankruptcy. It's the newest trend.

Never really been to one since there isn't one too close to me. I imagine most people just use Amazon or Walmart in place of them.

Technology plays a massive part, not really Nintendo specifically. Fewer and fewer people want physical items that aren't TVs, Computers, Appliances, etc. Hell most people I know now prefer not having physical copies of video games.

Combine that with how birth rates are lower than ever, and Toys R Us was doomed

If people are buying less physical. What are people spending money on instead?
In game skins?

Apps.

But honestly, why keep buying a bunch of toys when you can make one investment in an iPad for your 2 year old and give them endless entertainment?

the closest Toys R Us is in San Antonio so its a bit of a drive to get to one

but every once in a blue moon, if me and my little brother have been good, we got to go and it was always magical.

I mean, we would always see the commercials, its been hyped up as a toy wonderland and it never let down, seeing a giant store filled with aisles and aisles of toys was the best thing you could see as a kid. Even my older brother and sister, who were teenagers when we went, were enchanted by this place.

I have nothing but fond memories. It especially hit us because we were pretty poor, so this was an event.

the last time I went as a kid was when DKC1 just came out. They had a demo display and it instantly became my favorite game of all time back then. We didn't own an SNES til a few years later but I always remembered it blowing my mind there

the last time I went period was when it had an exclusive amiibo (I think Lucario?)
They didn't have any

though nothing is closing, seeing that topic title made me realize what the store meant to me

Blaming Nintendo doesn't make sense, Toys R Us has a video game section and in fact it was the only place that a buddy of mine got an NES classic last year

I think the point is that things like the NES Classic and Amiibo are influencing kids to not want toys.

How does that hurt TRU if TRU sells those things?
