You could evolve Inkay if you want, but its less cute after it evolves. It also has a bullshit evolution method. Read if you want to find out how: You have to hold your 3DS upside down when it levels up.

I totally read the spoiler tag and will provide an update later

Since I could finally fly, I decided to put in Hawlucha, but I didn't want to swap out Axew in case I got into some fights. I decided Roselia could take a breather. I didn't do much. I got the Dusk Balls, went to the Battle Chateau (still haven't progressed from Viscount), and just went from town-to-town in case they sold special stuff at their shops. In the fly menu, I saw that under Geosenge Town, the crazy cult place, their hotel is called Hotel Marine Snow. There is absolutely nothing marine nor snowy about the place. There is no convincing me otherwise that I am not spot-on about that town.

I tried to see if I could forget an HM for the hell of it, and a messaged popped up saying that I can't forget HMs yet. That last word fills me with hope.

After my little diversion was over, I went back to Coumarine, put Roselia back in, and proceeded. Lysandre or whatever the name is of the guy who is probably leading Team Flare asked a 10-year-old via the holowhatever to not be a kid and change the future or something. Well, if there's anyone who can, it's the kid who already owns his own house.

I received a new Pokedex expansion. Based on the symbols, I can only assume that this is the final one. It also appears that I need to head toward the power plant that will obviously feature Team Flare.

This arid place was a nightmare. There were a lot of shacks that I could not enter without a pass (I did see what appears to be the most massive power plant in existence if you can see it from both sides), the obnoxious wind slows movement to a crawl, and the wild Pokemon are relentless in their pursuit of you. To make matters worse, seemingly 90% of the Pokemon have an ability that doesn't allow me to run from battle (Trap Arena). I might hate this more than that cave. I did catch a Gible, Trapinch, Dugtrio, and Graveler.

As I mentioned, I did read the spoiler tag on evolving Inkay. I saw the message that it went up to Lv 37. I decided to hold my 3DS upside down before pressing A again. It worked, and it turned into one ugly son of a bitch named Malamar. I prefer Inkay's appearance, but I prefer the lowest form's look than their evolved forms more often than not.

It's a good thing that this Team Flare guy externalized his internal monologue to let me know that he dropped his pass to the power plant and exactly where it must be. I keep forgetting to use my dowsing rod since it isn't mappable to a button (or I haven't figured out how). Only the shack nearby could be opened with it.

I just defeated the only Team Flare member outside and the only one near the entrance. Why don't the six captives make a run for it?

So Malamar is amazing and probably my third favorite of my Pokemon behind Greninja and Vespiquen. I can say with 100% certainty that those three will be with me for the long haul. Roselia and Amaura are likely while I can see myself continuing to cycle through the #6 spot. Speaking of Roselia, I see that I have a stone that can involve it (Shiny Stone). When I flew to various locations, I did go to Lumoise to check out the stone shop, and all I could find was Fire, Water, and Leaf Stones. I want to evolve Roselia, but I am also curious if I can get more Shiny Stones.

I could be wrong, but I think Sycamore's assistants showed up in costume after I drove Team Flare out. That was them right? I haven't paid that close attention to their appearances, but it sort of looked like them. After leaving and heading south, I ran into what could be a deranged, homeless man. The camera angle was funky or he was a true giant. Luckily, he didn't notice my presence, so I live to see another day.

I caught Slugma before entering Lumiose City again. In the Pokemon Center, I met up with someone who regaled me with a tale of an encounter with Gary Oak. In this encounter, Gary once said "Bonjour, smell ya later!" He would normally be in his 30s, but in the Pokemon world, I'm guessing that makes him 11. Regardless, he is going places.

It didn't occur to me that Lumiose would have a gym, but it appears to be run by a pair of seven-year-olds. I will make them rue the day they decided to prematurely become trainers tonight.

You can get more Shiny Stones from doing one of the Super Training courses (not a 100% guaranteed drop) on the bottom screen. You're probably fine to evolve Roselia anytime you want now. It gets a recovery move at 46, but if it has Giga Drain that's fine too. Plus I mean you have potions anyway, so.

Congrats on Malamar, though, and I'm glad he's won a permanent place on your team! I'm a little surprised Vespiquen is a permanent member, but I've never used one for any decent length of time. Maybe I ought to give one a whirl.

I did decide to evolve Roselia, and it became Roserade, not that any of you should be surprised what it became. I then made the mistake of exploring the rest of Lumiose because holy hell was that overwhelming! I don't understand why you can't have a mini-map in the bottom screen when there are apps to play digital soccer and touch your Pokemon.

During this time, I went into approximately 25 different buildings. One contained a man using the third floor of an office building for a makeshift dojo or dance studio. I forget what they said. Why is there office equipment in there? In the unlikely event that the equipment was already there, why not sell it to not pay rent for a couple months?

I spoke to someone somewhere (these are going to be very vague) who said that simply winning battles can increase stats. I don't know if that was some weird way to talk about leveling up, but if not, you have my attention.

I came across a fancy hotel that cost $100,000 a night. I better receive beaucoup benefits, including one-of-kind items if I were to pony up the cash! That being said, at least they offered. I don't recall other hotels offering me a night. I tried the three jobs here. They were whatever, but I was perfect and collected my earnings.

"I can sleep very well on a hotel bed" - said a man sitting on a chair in his room at 1 in the morning.

Another one of the dozens of office buildings contained a woman who was standing in a corner, staring at the corner. Does this business put its employees in timeout? I later came across something called a Battle Test. I can't do it until "my journey ends" so who knows if I ever will take the test.

Since I was playing this late at night, I wasn't in the mood for something that would upset me and possibly give me trouble sleeping. Unfortunately, I saw and was told a tale of two Skiddo who were abandoned at a train station and stay there every day. At least they have each other but goddamn just let me adopt them!

I finally decided to go into the gym. It's an electric gym. I just assume that at minimum 4/6 of my Pokemon are weak against every gym type. I admit that I made a goof in there. I didn't realize that the pillar in the middle was an elevator, so I proceeded to take one of the other exits thinking it was to another part of the gym. I very soon found out that the gym has four entrances/exits.

During my fight to the gym leader, Amaura evolved into Aurous. Pretty funky looking. It was at this time that I was seriously considering making my #6 Pokemon slot be a revolving door of Pokemon so I could continuously see them evolve and jack up my Pokedex (not that I have a snowball's chance in hell of completing it).

Clemont was tougher than I was expecting. He kept using Hyper Potions, Roar, and many of my Pokemon were weak to his attacks (lost Aurous). Eventually, I prevailed, earned $23,000, and the Voltage Badge. Clemont was speaking down to me like he was my elder.

I was forced to go to Lysandre's cafe. Is that how he finances his presumably expensive lab, through his lucrative cafe? As expected, he continued his unhinged rhetoric, though I got a huge kick out of "THEY'RE FILTH!" Some girl here was saving $5,000,000 for something related to Lysandre. Hmm, I wonder if it is to finance the creation of this device to remove THE FILTH from Kalos. Leaving, I was told to meet the gang at Route 14. It's been forever since I have traveled with them.

As much as I like the Ice/Rock combo with Aurous, I decided to bench him. His combination of low speed and defense is kind of a dealbreaker for me. I need at least one to be at an optimal level. I can deal with a 4-Pokemon team for now while I build up Axew before testing it and evolve a bunch of Pokemon. Out is Aurous, in is...Drifloon!

Serena and I fought AGAIN. She managed to knock out Axew (it clearly wasn't ready). Chestnaut is simultaneously hilarious and frightening to look at. I feel even better about my decision to go with Froakie. At the conclusion of the fight, Serena finally admitted that she's tired of losing all the time. Now to see if they take her down a predictable path or they go full WTF and make her a sort of crazed lunatic hellbent on winning a battle. Everyone except that sore loser Serena is heading toward an alleged scary house.

It's kind of eerie that nobody is here at the park. Then again again, it is 10:30 at night (this was on a different day than previous posts) and raining. Still, this is a crazy world and there is supposed to be a scary house here!

I realize that I have basically not talked about what moves my Pokemon have. I suppose I should start off by talking about my move philosophy. I'm all about offensive or status effect moves. I'm obviously not a part of the competitive Pokemon scene, which I assume places some value on defense and support moves.

Furthermore, I value move type variety. As long as power values are similar and there aren't mitigating factors such as offense + status effect combos or potential PP issues, I like to have no more than 2 of a type, though I have an exception.

Lv 49 Greninja
Water Pulse
Aerial Ace
Smack Down
Extrasensory

Lv 46 Vespiquen
Attack Order
Power Gem
Air Slash
Cut

Lv 44 Roserade
Petal Dance
Giga Drain
Venoshock
Grass Whistle

Lv 41 Malamar
Foul Play
Psycho Cut
Pluck
Hypnosis

Since my last two Pokemon will be fluid for the foreseeable future, I didn't include Axew or Drifloon.

First, fuck Lumiose City because I also hate how confusing it is and all the stupid buildings with dumb irrelevant stuff in it

Second, the part I quoted sounds like they're talking about EVs (effort values). I can't explain it well so I'm going to shamelessly steal this explanation from bulbapedia:

Effort values abbreviated EVs, are attributes which give bonuses to an individual Pokmon's stats and improve differently depending which Pokmon they defeat...

Effort values, in the form of effort points, are gained in addition to bonuses gained by increasing level. Effort values ensure that trained Pokmon are stronger than wild Pokmon, even those of the same level. Effort points are awarded equally to all Pokmon who participated in defeating a Pokmon. Though they are shared, each of the Pokmon will receive the standard amount of effort points...

Since Generation III, effort points have been completely separate values from base stats. Defeated Pokmon give out 1, 2 or 3 effort points to a particular stat, depending on species (see list of Pokmon by effort value yield). However, in battles that do not give any experience (such as in the Battle Tower or if the Pokmon is level 100), Pokmon will not gain any effort points. At level 100, a Pokmon's stats will be one stat point higher in a specific stat for every four effort points gained in that stat.
Pokmon are limited to a total of 255 effort points per stat, and 510 effort points in total. However, since stats are calculated by dividing effort by 4 and disregarding the remainder, only 252 effort points are required to maximize a stat. In Generation VI, the limit was changed from 255 to 252, preventing wasting EVs. As a result, the maximum amount of additional stat points that can be acquired by EV-training for a given stat is 63, in comparison to an otherwise identical Pokmon that is uninvested in EVs.

In my own words, you get 'points' that go into a stat for defeating certain pokemon and when you get 4 of those 'points' the actual stat goes up by 1. But then it maxes out at 252

For example, say you just caught a Pokemon. It won't have any EVs. Then you go to town killing Zubats to level it up. Zubat gives 1 Speed EV, so when you beat 4 Zubats, your Pokemon's speed will go up by 1.

Edit: this is all stuff you don't need to worry about. It's more for the hardcore competitive players. But hey, now you know.

In this marshy area, I caught Goomy, Karrablast, Haunter, Quagsire, Carnivine, Stunfist, Shelmet, and Skorupi. Drifloon also evolved into Drifblim already (I put the Lucky Egg on it). Looking at its stats, they seem on the low side (speed looks decent), though it is at 29 when everyone else is in the mid-30s to late 40s.

Damn, they forced me to go inside the scary house. This better not take long. I tipped the storyteller in hopes of not engaging in a fight, though I am curious if I missed out on something by refusing to tip. I took the time to go back to Lumiose and swap out Drifblim for Roggenrola. I don't know why Shauna came back to the entrance of Route 14 if she isn't going to follow me around like she did back in that forest at the beginning.

I met up with a trainer called Fairy Tale Girl Imogen, and she straight up looks like she belongs in a horror story.

Laverre City looks neat, but that's for another day.

That said it's not that simple since it scales with your level. The 4 EVS = 1 point rule only applies at level 100. Even at level 50 it takes 8 EVS, so it definitely something not to worry about unless you're playing competitively.

I was out for most of yesterday afternoon to evening, and I totally forgot to post the dinky update that I had. I suck.

The Poke Mart here in Laverre City sells permanent stat increases. I have over $450k, so if I really wanted to, perhaps I could make Aurous, Pangoro, or Drifblim viable Pokemon. Somewhere else in the city, I received a Gengarite, so there's the sixth(?) known Pokemon to Mega Evolve.

Man, there's a girl here who knows what Pokemon I had when I won a badge. I received the first badge, Bug Badge, with Froakie, Pidget, Panpour, Butterfree, Pikachu, and Azurill. Man, that feels like a lifetime ago!

I decided to go back to the Battle Chateau and finally became an Earl. I also took this time to go back to old locations to catch more Pokemon. Burmy, Magikarp, Goldeen, and Litleo are mine. I spent forever trying to find Pokemon such as Corpish, Ralts, and Abra without avail. I had no intention or chance of completing the Pokedex, but man what a tedious affair that must be.

I got my team back together and went to the Laverre Gym. I was confused as fuck at first as to what I was seeing. Not that it explains the weirdness, but it is a fairy-type gym and it is a maze via standing on teleportation buttons, or something like that.

Furisode Girl? I later checked that up, and it is a style of kimono. I guess that I didn't pay that close attention to their attire, but I feel like they weren't all wearing kimonos. One of these girls had a Pokemon that was just a living set of keys. I must have it!

The difficulty seems to be really ramping up now, but it could also be due to only have four core Pokemon and always swapping out Pokemon within to where I have no super high-leveled Pokemon. During one of these fights, Roggenrola evolved into Boldore. I looked to see if it had a third form (without looking at pictures), and it apparently does via trading only. I forgot that some Pokemon only do that, so I went back out and swapped him with one of the few remaining unused Pokemon in a box I titled Main Reserves. Croagunk gets its chance to shine.

The gym leader Valerie looks like someone who spent a lot of money getting cosmetic surgery to make themselves look like another person or a fictional character. After the battle, she admits she wants to be or look like a Pokemon. I didn't look deeply into the eyes of her main Pokemon Sylveon, but perhaps there was a connection there.

With the Fairy Badge in tow, I now have six of the eight badges, but I am being requested by Shauna and Trevor to head to the Poke Ball Factory. I suspected Team Flare was involved as that was also the case for locations outside of the typical route. When I entered the factory, the music sounded like the other times I met up with Team Flare, so that about settles it.

Everyone quickly gathered and left the Poke Ball Factory, leaving Serena and myself to go through it. This means that we will definitely be having a 2-on-2 battle. Vegas' O/U is 2.5 turns before Serena loses a Pokemon.

Something that always disappoints me is finding out a Pokemon's evolved form in battle before I get a chance to evolve mine. I understand that's unavoidable, but having just seen Croagunk's evolved form, the will to see Croagunk evolve has completely disappeared. Now he's just there to see if he's worth being a permanent fixture on the team.

Axew evolved in Fraxure. She apparently has a third form, so even though the stats are a bit disappointing (attack is the only thing that it seems to be at a good level), I'm going to hold onto it. I do think it's ready to be used in battle since it's almost at the level of the Pokemon I typically face.

At the end of the factory, I realized that I was probably going to get the Master Ball. I mean Poke Ball Factory + company president + driving away criminal organization = some sweet prize I'd imagine. We did have a 2-on-2 battle, and if you took the under, you won as Serena lost her Meowstic in two turns.

I had a choice of a Master Ball or Big Nugget. To me, this was a no-brainer despite not knowing what a Big Nugget was and took the Master Ball. Lucky for me, I did receive both. The item description for the Big Nugget makes it sound like you simply sell it. If anyone knew that in advance and it actually was an either/or scenario, who in their right mind wouldn't take the Master Ball?

The intro music for Route 15 sounds like it belongs in Last Window or Hotel Dusk. I figured that all the leaf piles scattered around were for wild Pokemon, but I was surprised to find out they housed items and deranged challengers, specifically those rangers. In one of the many fights I had here, I came across a Seadra. I've been familiar with Seadra for almost 20 years, and I just found out that its needles are poisonous. That's the only explanation anyway that I came up with when I was poisoned for attacking it.

In another fight, I came across a Vileplume, and I didn't realize just how plain of a design it had. That is one of the rare evolution trees where the middle form is the most detailed (Gloom). There were many surf and rock smash spots in this route, so I had to get Binacle and Aurous to explore.

I caught Foongus, Murkrow, and Lombre.

I made it to Dendemille Town. Professor Sycamore caught up with me with a third assistant who I didn't recognize and whose name I was told and immediately forgot. Sycamore said that there is just one legendary Pokemon (bummer), and I have to assume it is the one on the box and on the intro screen. He said that it is in some hidden, safe place to recuperate. Since I know it is some forest deer and there was no forest near that cave that I hated, it's probably not in that spot I previously singled out in the lowest part of the cave.

What ability does your have?

I can boot it up tonight and check, but I am pretty sure that it is Dry Skin. I remember Lombre using a water attack and it healing Croagunk.

Also in Dendemille, there have been several mentions of a Frost Cavern and trouble lurking there. Team Flare again? I'm hoping it's actually a Pokemon. At the Pokemon Center, I came across a kid who met a Delibird who wanted to give a berry to people stranded in the mountains. The Delibird gave the kid a berry who in turn gave it to me to finish what Delibird started. I feel like I misinterpreted the story or that Delibird is completely incompetent/lazy.

There were some things I missed back on Route 15, and as I explored them, I realize that I have a lot of options of what to do now. I can explore this Lost Hotel that I popped into and left. I can go south of Route 15 to immediately enter Route 16 via a movable stone. I can explore all of Dendeville Town. And finally, and I don't know where it is but assume it is nearby, I can check out this Frost Cavern.

Decision to come tonight.

Yeah, I gave my game a look of "are you fucking kidding me?" when I was under the assumption you had to pick either the Master Ball or the Big Nugget.

Croagunk and Lombre are both planned for my next Pokemon game! I've never used either of them, but would like to.

I used a Murkrow in my one of my games, I think Y? It was the first Pokemon I'd ever gotten to level 100 without the use of Missingno's infinite rare candies.

I really like Vileplume's design, but then again, Rafflesia is one of my top 3 flowers. I'd love to see one in real life one day (really I'd like to smell one one day, just for the sake of experiencing it).

There are 4 total legendary Pokemon for x and y. 3 can be obtained in each game. One is an older legendary, will add a spoiler tag mewtwo the other is completely new. There is a lot more focus on this new legendary in Sun and moon. Then there are the game specific legendaries that are on the box arts.

I am just going to assume the spoiler tag is Mewtwo because his image is on the back of a box as a Mega Evolution-eligible Pokemon.

I decided to go to Route 16 first. In the first fight there, Croagunk evolved into Toxicroak. Soon after that, I found another entrance to Lost Hotel. I caught a Pumpkaboo and Floatzel, and I was mistakenly irritated in catching the former. Whatever Pumpkaboo's ability is, it mentioned the held item on Greninja, which is the Amulet Coin. I saw the word "frisked" and assumed that it was stolen. When I caught the Pumpkaboo, I saw that it didn't have an item on it and was furious that regardless of Amulet Coin being replaceable, the item just vanished despite capturing the culprit. It turns out that Pumpkaboo simply frisked but did not take.

I met up with a trainer who had Gardevoir, which has the same colors as Ralts. I take it this is the Pokemon that creepy people have a fascination with?

After using Toxicroak a lot going through Route 16, I pretty sure that he is going to become a permanent fixture on my team. None of his stats are high, but he also has no statistical weaknesses. I was planning on holding onto Fraxure until I try out his final form, but I decided that I'm probably getting close to the end of my journey and should probably start developing more Pokemon. Out is Fraxure, in is Litleo.

At the end of Route 16, I received my third fishing rod, the Super Rod. Route 16 leads back to Lumiose, so I headed back the way I came. Having "vanquished" Route 16, I decided that Lost Hotel should be my next destination. I went in the northern entrance.

I walked around for a relatively long time before being caught off guard that wild Pokemon encounters were a thing in here. I thought that would have just been in caves and that Rhyhorn ride. I caught a Trubbish.

The game wouldn't let me proceed because I wasn't stylish enough. I don't recall a boutique selling clothing and accessories similar to what these delinquents are wearing, so I might have to come back to this later. I did decide to go to the southern entrance in case my fortunes would change.

- I don't know why it took me so long to realize it, but a dilapidated, non-functioning hotel + dregs of society = junkie haven

Too bad. Fraxures evolution is pretty awesome. Both in looks, and in stats. I'm not a hundred percent, but it might be a pseudo legendary. There are 8 or 10? Of them throughout the games. Basically it means they are Pokemon with a base stat total of 600. I know dragonite, metagross, salamence, a few more dragons, goomy's final evolution, don't want to spoil it for you. Pretty tough Pokemon.

Yeah, Gardevoir is the waifu-mon that Ralts becomes.

Was your Litleo male or female? Their evolution changes looks depending on its sex. Males look pretty badass, but only make up 12.5% of the species. It's more likely you have a female unless you were specifically looking for a male.
