I had the most fun with 7. If I don't use nostalgia googles and I try to look at them all now as a critic I'd be tempted to say 9, but the ATB was slow, trance was terrible, and the summons were nerfed.

I plan on giving 12 Remaster another shot, maybe change my opinion on that one. Only played about 10 hours the first time.

As a critic 9 would literally be the worst so I doubt you should use that term. Its slow battle system and long load times by themselves are a deal breaker on performance issue alone; battles take up to 10 seconds just to load. Imagine how monotonous that is. Every random encounter. Every single random encounter. You're stuck watching a blank screen and checking your watch to see how much time has elapsed.

Best version of the classic, but I like the DS/Steam version more because it spins the model enough to make it interesting.

It's also my favourite FF game.

I didn't like 12 at all. I was excited to play it because I hate MMOs and I hated how they made 11 a part of the numbered series.

Anyway, yeah, when I was playing 12 I felt like the entire game was just fetch quest after fetch quest. It just left me wondering why the fuck I was playing. I wasn't having any fun at all and I didn't feel like any characters had enough of a personality or backstory for me to care about what was happening at all (or even follow it). It's just fetch quest fetch quest fetch quest. It drove me nuts.

Favourites are VII, VI, XI and Tactics.

XI and XIV are both very good as well, but since they're MMOs I usually don't include them.

I really can't answer that question. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses.

FF7, is the first FF game i played so it has the biggest nostalgia value for me. I also, really like Cloud and Sephiroth.

FF8, i hated and love the junction system, but it has my favorite music tracks and i liked the setting the most.

FF9, has most cons (slow combat, and that fucking stupid ass low steal success rate), but its very balanced, and it has Vivi. Also the battle and boss music were bad. (except that one female knight theme). The best song is feel my blade, and you hear that music ONCE in the beginning, and never again.

FF10, is kinda unpolished and has huge amount of bullshit, but i really liked the world, and it has really good music, and blitzball. Its also the only FF game that made me emotional to the point i cried a little. Manly tears of course.

FF12, has strong atmosphere and sense of adventure. Just so much content, and the gambit system isn't all that bad, considering you don't have to use it, but adding stuff like auto attack was very helpful. The combat was surprisingly the WORST aspect of the game, which is horrible for jrpg. What i mean by the worst is that your whole party is practically mages, who uses the same spells. Techniques were completely useless except libra.

It has the big bug in it though. Apparently the magic defense doesn't work in equipment, only magic defense that actually does defend against magic is spirit stat. Also, the HP cap shouldn't be there, because the hp boosting materia goes beyond 10k, but you just don't know how much, and this last part is nit picking but Vincent's limit breaks are useless, and the dmg cap should be removed for rest of the chars limit breaks.

Tough question.
The first one really doesn't age well enough, even with the DoS remake.
II is very underrated IMO, it actually has a plot (impressive for its time), and I love the growth system. It's just too easy to break.
III is a very solid NES game, and the remake made it better and worse. It just plays like a worse FF V in pretty much every way, but some of the classes are super cool. Unfortunately many of them are useless.
IV is probably the most overrated IMO. Yes, the 3D remake improves on it, but it still has very dull gameplay and a plot that I never cared about. I get the sense that a lot of Americans look on it with very nostalgic eyes.
V is great, gameplay wise. The plot is very uninteresting, but it has a lot of end-game content and is definitely a strong contender for best 2D FF.
As for my favorite, usually I keep going back and forth between VI and VII. IMO they're the two that have the least flaws (far from flawless, though!).
VIII has some pretty cool ideas, but breaks so much more easily. And the story has an idiotic twist.
IX has such a nice atmosphere and setting, but the Trance system and the slowness of it cripples it a lot.
X plays really smoothly but the setting is dumb, the plot is poorly edited, and putting everything in a corridor made it really dull. X-2 is dumb.
XII has a lot of good things, it's just that it fails to really catch my interests. XIII is like X cubed - plays smoothly and some neat ideas, but suffers even more from poor plot and corridor syndrom.
XIV is the only MMO I tried, and it's quite nice! But I really don't like that jobs are forced into the tank/dps/healer trinity. It'd be cooler if it were spec based.

FFT is great, FFTA is pulpy mediocrity, FFTA2 fixes a lot of FFTA's mistakes but still doesn't really come close to FFT.

Really? I felt it was one of the more underrated ones if anything, at least in regards to being forgotten. I always see it deemed as the most "average" among the favorite FFs, while 6, 7, 9, and 10 are heralded more often than not.

I personally favor the original/GBA port over the remake.
