Yeah, I see in general three games championed as "the best", and I attribute it to three generations of players: IV, VII, and X. The VI and IX camps strike me as a lot smaller, but loud. Then there's of course a lot of hate going around for VII specifically but also X a little, to which I attribute the typical edgy hate of mainstream. I mean sure I didn't love X but I still enjoyed putting like 120+ hours into it.

But yeah, my impression is that a lot of people really love IV, and a majority of them played it as their first FF when they were young.

I've only beaten IV, V, and X so far.

Despite how mundane its gameplay is about 90% of the time, and some of the problems I have with the writing, voice acting, ect., X's my favorite of those. I love the story and characters, enough to where this might be one of my top 10 games. I should probably replay it some day, and finally try out Blitzball and the expert sphere gird.

I like V almost as much. It took most of what I liked about IV, and inproved on it. Even the story's better, imo. IV has some of its own stuff going for it, though, I'd say it's still worth playing.

I agree with all this except for 10. I liked 6 turn based the best. And 6 and 9 and Tactics probably the best all around.
