So I've been following Irma for a bit it is now Category 4 and it still has awhile to go before hitting a big land mass. That um... might wipe half of Florida off that map, jesus christ.

I used to live in Puerto Rico, just moved out a month ago. Pretty lucky in that regard.

My dad and stepmom, however, both live in Puerto Rico. They're flying out tomorrow afternoon, the hurricane is hitting the island on Wednesday.

Their neighbors sent us a picture of their preparation:

Yeah, the center is gonna come very close to PR. My family is mostly prepared, though. Right now we're just wating until tomorrow to see just how close it'll pass to see if we get the stronger hurricane winds. I live in the northern part of PR.

The latest computer models seem to be encouraging for Florida, but not so great for South Carolina. GFS began a trend last night indicating a more easterly trajectory, and others have followed suit. Unfortunately it won't be enough and if those models hold true, the Carolinas could expect a significant impact before it gets carried back out into the Atlantic.

Obviously Puerto Rico is still in bad shape, as are the Bahamas.

It's pre-apocalypse here now. Rain and tropical storm winds have started.

NHC is sticking to their guns with a south Florida landfall and right now the storm is a bit south and west of where the models say it should be, so Florida's nowhere near out of the woods yet.

Basically everyone from Florida to the Outer Banks probably should be preparing for a major hurricane strike and getting out if they can. Could be a false alarm for Florida if the models end up being right about the storm taking a Matthew-like path, but it's better to be safe than sorry with a storm like this.

It won't be a direct impact. We'll be getting hit by the southern part of Irma, so thankfully we won't be getting them 185 mph winds.

Feeling pretty good about this. Like it won't do much damage. But maybe that's just my wishful thinking.

Irma didn't do much to the PR. Haven't seen local news about deaths toll or flash floods, but in my town all it did that I can see was uproot and break trees.
