I'm not letting my child watch YouTube anymore until they learn how to clean up their fucking shit heap of a site. I do all the searching and have to approve what he watches beforehand, but go type in Paw patrol and watch some of the disgusting shit these fucking lunatics put on there. That's the current trend show all the kids are watching and these assholes are making videos with thumbnails of people pissing into a vat and shit. To make matters worse their stupid ass algorithms make it so if you click on something like that, that's all that ends up popping up in related searches.

It's a good thing I always monitor what my son is watching, but how can shit like that get so many views withouthe the people at YouTube looking at the content?

Another thing the amount of videos of grown people cashing in on children by making videos of themselves playing with *insert current children's fad* toys is also very disturbing. That. However is a whole different topic.

TL;DR: watch what your kid is doing on the Internet, please.

I hear you, dude. YouTube is the worst. My mother-in-law puts YouTube on when she babysits and the stuff they watch is just dumb. It's kid-friendly, but it's garbage content.

We have a Roku, and let the kids watch the PBS Kids channel most of the time. Nick Jr and Disney Kids or whatever are on there, too.

The parental controls and kid's menu on Netflix is okay, but we try to keep them off Netflix, too.

Heads up though, PBS Kids has an app for iPhone and android and it's free.

Yeah when my kids want to watch youtube, they have to watch it on the PS4 so I can hear what is being said. They have a chromebook (since they use them at school) and I only allow a few sites. What's bad is that some sites that they use at home and at school allows ads and sometimes those ads are questionable.

I agree. Some of the things that are supposedly kids shows on there are downright disturbing.

The adults playing with kid's toys is just weird but those too can be inappropriate like babydolls/ and Barbies covered in fake shit.

Has youtube always been such a shitheap or is it just a recent thing? My cousin would watch really inappropriate stop motion videos done with Star Wars lego. It was weird. I wouldn't let my kid watch anything I wouldn't watch. So basically just educational or news videos, music videos, action figure reviews and two hour long discussions about anime trends.

I have no clue. Remember cr1tikal did a video about the whole finger family trend about a year or so ago, but before that I just never paid it any mind.

My thing is these results are like in the top 20 for videos when you search very popular topics, and they have 200k views minimum...How?

Thank God for apps and shit so I can just watch DisneyJr or nickjr now.

yeah as I said I feel youtube needs a feature where you the parent specifically pick channels thats ok for your child to watch, it would be easier to just pick what you are ok with rather than wade through everything your not ok with and checking them off as not being able to be viewed.

I wouldn't want my kid repeating random stuff they heard on that Flashgitz crap or anything similar so I hear ya and applaud your parenting. There's entirely more substantial/wholesome entertainment that doesn't have to be childish or watered down to consume rather than just silly debauchery or whatever it would be more appropriately referred as. Old Cartoon Network was pretty good for example

Not that I've never been into all that of course, but looking back on a lot of these silly ass productions, a lot of it is just pretty ridiculous. Not during the young childhood years. Adolescence/young teens, well thats when I started watching youtube poops and all that so around those ages I'd let them make their own decisions, but I'd still let them know how silly I think a lot of it is, provided they aren't hiding their consumption of it as if it were some kind of porn mag. Kids shouldn't have to feel like they have to hide stuff from their parents either.

Hypothetical though since knowing what a shithole this existence is I wouldn't be having kids until I was able to provide them everything they needed. Too much of a job. They'd also be homeschooled, as I was, except the difference is, they would actually be receiving an education. I know how/why I turned out the way I did, so I already know everything not to do.

I'm glad with the setup Youtube has for the most part. There is just far too much content for anyone to go through and manually review for rating and blanket censorship would be a very bad thing. But as large and ubiquitous Youtube is, Google really needs to make better parental controls on their service.

Yes, whitelisting content would probably be the best way to go. It would be more work on the parent's end, but it would definitely be more efficient and safe than anything else.

This is one of the reasons I am glad I won't be having any kids. It has to be hard with the internet today to really monitor everything, eventually they will just go to a friends house that has unlimited access so they will watch whatever they want anyhow.

Glad you try to keep track and watch what they are consuming, sometimes I am shocked at how oblivious most parents are.

My suggestion would be don't even let them watch anything on youtube. Stick to netflix and other streaming services you may more control of.

My cousin fell into the habit of repeating everything he finds funny, to try and be funny himself. He basically has the mind of a child, so he doesn't understand the things he says, just that they made other people laugh at school, or it was loud and obnoxious on YouTube. It's lead to him saying some very inappropriate things to people and not even realizing it.

Some of the videos he's shown me that he really liked had some extremely raunchy content and he just saw there oblivious to it until some kind of slapstick thing happens, or someone shouts something loudly. My mom caught him watching nasty videos and punished him by telling him he couldn't watch that particular channel any more, but he constantly sneaked around watching it anyway, but it was obvious because he didn't understand that sound travels...

Luckily, his new favorite trend is just plain stupid rather than problematic. Now he just searches for overwatch videos where people set their sensitivity to the highest and just stand there flipping the camera around really fast. Of course, he has to imitate it too, because it seems he can't think for himself, and bugs me to constantly watch him play overwatch as he stands in one spot flipping the camera around and squealing with laughter. He fen gets mad that I stop watching after a few minutes, but it's the same thing everyday for like 20 minutes at a time. It wasn't even funny to begin with.
Ugh, guess I went in a bit of a rant there.

I would propose creating a "family friendly" site to oppose Youtube. No violent, profane, or any content remotely sexual, for media uploads, and the site would be aimed at children, and those who would object to Youtube's declining standards.

On the otherhand, I would also propose launching a site that would be the exact opposite, allowing everything that is not pornographic in nature, as a news site aimed at adults, to allow as much information as possible (like what Liveleak does, but in a more coherent manner, and less useless videos).

Maybe I'm young and that's why I disagree with everyone's take on this issue. I don't think I should tell my kid what he should watch and what he shouldn't. If they're learning nasty words from there without realizing, I would just tell them don't say those words (or any other stupid/bad habit they learn after watching a video), instead of just limiting what they can see, because I feel like if I try to control that, they'll just do further desperate things like going at a friend's house to watch or something like that.
