If Sega returned to the hardware market making video game home consoles again, making a Sega Dreamcast 2, would you buy it?

Let's say Sega finally has the confidence to go back into the video game hardware market to make another console, like a Sega Dreamcast 2(but in the same hardware specs class as the PS4 and Xbox One or possibly just a tad above them in specs). Sonic the Hedgehog slowly becomes the great quality and beloved Sega IP again like it once was on this console.

Would you buy it?

Last good Sega game on a Sega console or last good Sega game in general(after they gave up on consoles)?

So far, their recent track record shows almost exclusively Sonic, a bit of Phantasy Star Online, the occasional Bayonetta, sequels to old one-off games that get ignored by the media and public, the most successful Mario-Kart clone to date, and rereleases of old titles.

Sega needs reorganization, which they haven't been able to do ever since Bernie Stolar took over Sega of America.

Honestly, if they made a good "Dreamcast Mini" for $100, I'd be down.

Depends on what the system offers. The manufacturer's name on the console doesn't matter.

I'd be happy with a SEGA home console that's just a modern Dreamcast memory card that plugs in to a bespoke steam controller so they can make a Steam Sonic Adventure 3.

This. Realistically, if they want to succeed at all, they'll probably have to offer just another mini-PC sort of console, rather than trying to carve their own niche (Nintendo's already trying to do that, with limited success, and Nintendo's got a much stronger foothold than Sega does), and in that case most of their library is going to be multiplat and the system isn't likely to be worth owning (as somebody who already has a PC). In the event that they manage a strong exclusive library that I'm interested in, though, I might consider it.

They would need to cultivate some amazing talent for exclusives.

If they could get a good handful of the following whithin the first 2 or 3 years I'd probably bite.

A 2d sonic as good as they were in there prime 1-3.

a 3d sonic that didnt suck.

a shenmue sequel/reboot/remake

A phantasy star online as charming and fun as the original

An earth worm jim as good as 1 and 2

AAA eternal champions, shinobi, and vector man

as well as keeping up with multiplatform stuff.

I am seriously wondering if they aren't already working on a console for next generation...

They have so many great franchises under their belt that have seen 1 or 0 games in the last two console generations that, if made well, would make for an awesome 1st party line of games for a new console.

I just don't get what Sega is up to internally. Half of their titles are great, half suck, and there are a ton of games that people want they don't seem to be working on at all these days.

I would consider it, but it faces the same problem nintendo has. I have a hard time justifying a $300 purchase and $50 a game on something I am only going to play a handful of games on and those handful of games have to compete with my limited free time with cheaper computer games, cell phone, movies, friends, tv-shows, surfing the internet, and my various hobbies I suck at. It is just too big of a money sink for how little I would actually use it. If I still had roommates I would consider it, because then it would probably be used daily, but until I either get a lot more money or a lot more free time I'm probably going to continue to skip it.

I get the feeling people remember how awesome the games were for the Dreamcast, but forget that the console itself was kind of crappy. The controllers were poorly made, the UI was ugly, the memory cards were crap, and the thing didn't have any copy protection. In 1999. I mean it makes sense for consoles made 5 years earlier because CD-R drives were still somewhat expensive but in 1999 you could buy one for less then a Dreamcast.

Unless they magically hired the people who made the Genesis, I have no faith in a Sega console to be decent.

i would buy it because i want to play yakuza.

Maybe they will bring Phantasy Star back to the West. so i will support that.

Also they publish a lot of games. so i can see them bring Vanquish 2 to the system along with the Alien franchise.

They really need to make more single player Phantasy Star games.

i wish Hatsune Miku and space channel 5 merge. Ulala is way cooler than Hatsune, but Hatsune Miku make a ton more money than Ulala.

Damn if they make a true sequel/3rd game to Jet Set Radio!
