Yes.

Even his goal of killing off criminals and making the world a better place had selfish intentions behind it, especially when he said that he planned to go after petty crimes as well.

I went through the whole series not liking him and considering him an asshole, but it was the way he handled himself at the very end that made me consider him a bitch.

I wish the series didn't end that way. smh.

Yes. Even if it were acceptable to just mass murder criminals, Light still killed innocent people throughout the show.

yeah pretty much this. they had noble causes at first, but then their moral compass progressively shifted for the worse throughout the series.

making the better world by killing criminals is more about giving himself power. So thats why he falls for L's boast/trap instead of ignoring it and going about his shit.

Yes.

I can also see the appeal of doing things his way. Frighten everyone into obeying the law? Ir would be horrible for a while, but eventually people would get used to it. Society would be better off if the person in charge could keep it together.

He would have to be a martyr though, not a self-styled deity.

Because he killed law abiding citizens as well and over the course of the show he cares more about becoming God than stopping crime.

The rules of his world are different. If you're good, you live. If you commit crime, you die. Light's actions are being driven by good intentions. Due to all of this, I see him as the clear hero of the story.

I would not condone these rules for the real world. It would be subject to too much corruption. That wasn't an issue with Light in control.

He was evil and the whole "Let's just kill all the criminals" mentality is fucking stupid because as we see once he falls, crime and war start up again almost immediately, it wasn't even a full year before everything he worked for came tumbling down Why? Because we humans and society don't work that way, bad shit just happens and it's just another part of the world and the people who inhabit it, you could kill people for 100 years and if you were to take a couple of months off because you developed carpel tunnel, then all those kills would be meaningless,in order to create the society this madman wanted he'd have to be killing on the hour every hour for all of eternity and even then, it's not possible to stop all the bad things in the world because good and bad are subjective to our personal like minded morals and standards.

his intention was to grab power for himself. his method of doing it was first to kill criminals, then after having power, start killing people he didn't think contributed society
he's little different then any other dictator who says they want to improve society
