Would you be barred from this park based on their weight descriptions?

The OWA attraction opened last Friday in Alabama and the new amusement park has come under fire after it put out a set of WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS that officially BANNED Fat people from their rides..and it's different with Men AND Women!!

Now the park is at the mercy of the public as an example of their rules says being TALLER than 6ft 2 and more than 225lbs with a 40 inch waist or 52 inch chest are Banned from the park!!

Women who weighed more than 200lbs or wear a size 18 clothes are also banned from their 21 park rides as well

The park is branded as "not a park for fat people| as OWA released a statement that said "It was never our intent to offend any person or group by the language in our rider safety restrictions. Restrictions implemented by The Park at OWA are provided by the ride manufacturer to ensure thee safety of our guest and employees. Guests must be able to utilize all safety restraints and devices as designed by the manufacturer. Guests must have the ability to maintain the proper upright position and riding posture during the entire ride opersation. All passenger restraints, including lap bars, shoulder harnesses and seatbelts must be positioned properly and fastened tightly to allow guests to enjoy the ride"

Parents Kenneth Booker and Kayla Gartman were confused as Kayla said her husband was 6ft 8 inches tall and she's 6ft 1 and have a 13 year old who is 5ft 7 and Kayla was BANNED from the park...it was confusing for any of them to whether or not they are allowed or not..

Would you be barred from this Park based on their weight and height restrictions? let's see what people will vote

They're clearly lying about it being a safety issue. Certainly weight and (on some rides) height restrictions are fine. But they'd be the same for everyone regardless of gender. The difference between genders means they're lying about their purpose.

And to answer the question, at 5'10" and 155lbs I wouldn't be banned.

I used to work at a theme park, people would get really mad if they were told they can't ride but like.. The bar doesn't even lock into place over you, gtfo!. But they don't care.

I understand not letting people onto rides, every park does it. but banned from even entering is a bit weird.

Those are unusually low weight limits. Aside from like kiddie rides, I've never seen weight limits that low before. It also seems really sketchy that men and women have different limits.

For safety reasons, though, it seems like you'd want the weight limit to be much higher than the average person's weight. I'd worry about how safe a ride is that had trouble handling 200 pound people.

Actually they probably are hence the restrictions. It's not really up for debate. The ride manufactures provide the rules. The theme parks just enforce them. The restrictions are there for their own safety. Not some hidden agenda than makes zero sense.

Not always. 6 foot tall women and 5 foot tall men exist. Women also don't all carry weight in the same area. If it wasn't about weight, but whether they can be properly secured in the seats, then why not just go by whether or not they can be properly secured in the seats? Weight alone doesn't tell you that.

That was my first thought but couldn't said park simply ban folks from the rides instead of the park as a whole? Said overweight folks could still tag along and watch their friends/family members enjoy the rides. Granted I still filtering out folks at the front gates is easier than filtering out folks at each individual ride.

1st off - Clickbait

2nd - It also seems overly tall people are banned as well, plus there's always been a short limit, so it's not just weight and of course there is weight limits on things. These rides seats are designed with the average adult size in mind, they aren't looking at the extremes.

The weights they have seem a bit low though. They being overly cautious?

3. They not allowed in the park at all or just not allowed on the rides? I was a bit confused there. That would be weird if they weren't allowed in at all.

What about fat parents that were bringing their teen kids to the event and their kids were normal size? The parents would have to be allowed in to monitor their children right?

Here's the thing it's a post by duckbear. I doubt they're really banned from the whole park. But they likely have warning signs at the beginning of the park before you buy your tickets to avoid people buying tickets and then not being able to do almost anything in the park. That would make even more complaints and people would think the park is trying to steal, honestly.

Yeah, those are pretty low limits. Not being able to handle average-weight people is just shoddy engineering. The actual limits are likely far in excess of that (the standard in weight-rating something is to only rate it to a quarter of its actual physical limit), but it still definitely calls the construction into question.

Except for the part where they're sitting in the same seats. The girders don't get weaker when women line up for the ride, nor do the restraints get any tighter.

The minimum is typically far below the average height/weight for adults, though. The occasional 4' adult is going to run into issues, but those restrictions aren't going to affect the vast majority of people. Similarly, I'd expect a 7' person to be barred, simply because of how far outside the norm they are. Minima and maxima make sense, but if you're designing something properly, those figures aren't going to be reached very often. No decent engineer is going to design a boat that can't spend more than a week in the water at a time.
