I've been a WoW player since 04, and I'm sure I'll always pop in to see what's up in Azeroth, but I've liked the advent of MMOs with more action-y combat. I'm intrigued by this one... is it good? Endgame to speak of? Accessible to catch up?

I liked Destiny when I played it (Taken King launch) so I'm interested in Destiny 2 as well.

I hear it got a lot better since launch.

If you want something different I recommend Secret World Legends. It's 100% free (there are obviously microtransactions associated with that), lots of content to play through with more on the way, and it's a bit different than your typical MMO fare.

I played TSW since beta, and I've been enjoying SWL a lot too. It's great.

Just got it about 3 weeks ago, haven't played since beta, and it's a whole different game now. I'm fairly addicted to it.

It went F2P almost instantly which speaks a lot. It's dead, like pretty much every non-WoW MMO.

Yes it is... there is no subscription fee.

Though I should ask, speaking of that, are there microtransactions? Well, rather, I'd be expect there are, but are they aggressive/mandatory?

Uh, I guess I interpret it differently since when I started playing MMOs, they all required purchasing the game on top of a monthly subscription.

There's subscription, buy-to-play (aka a normal game), and F2P (no box cost, no sub, all optional micros).

See: WoW, Overwatch, and Heroes of the Storm, respectively

In early days of the MMO wo Ls, we just call all of those games with no subs F2P or at least say stuff like "this game went f2p", I suppose wrongly. I guess because back then, the truly free to play games weren't really around yet so we just referred to no sub games as that since all the competitoon still required you buy the game at that point. Now we've got pay2plays running around.

IIRC, subbing to ESO also grants you access to the content packs, so you don't even have to buy them separately.

That's true, but you could also buy them outright so you still have them without the sub. Apparently a 6 month sub gives you enough free crowns to buy all of it.
