I am a little frustrated

So far in this topic not a single person has managed to say why they liked the movie, and instead immediately began attacking my general character as soon as I said I didn't like it. I even brought up some points in an attempt to engage, but nobody even made a passing gesture to converse.

So you'd understand why it's hard for me to really care about what you've got to say after that, right?

You know how sometimes Vlado raises anti-Nintendo or anti-liberal points which might (might. Like occasionally. Mostly with the Nintendo stuff, the cartoonish deep state conspiracy stuff is harder to identify with) actually have some vague merit but it just gets lost in his terrible, aggressive, obnoxious wording, so he just ends up getting personal responses in return because why engage with that? Imagine like a much less severe version of Vlado for why people aren't immediately engaging you on a deep intellectual level here.

You spent the entire topic arguing that a movie you haven't seen and know nothing about is bad because it shares a fucking rotten tomatoes score with other boring movies.

And then you actually watched the movie and had EXACTLY ONE WORD to say about it: "boring" (two if you count "real" as part of your review).

So ITT there is literally no way to discuss your opinion on the actual movie. How do you not realize that? All there is to see is some dude neurotically caring about what other people think of the movie, who also has a history of bashing people for posting opinions he doesn't agree with, even if they are detailed 1000-2000 word analyses trying to have real discussions.

But sure be Vlado and believe the only reason people think you're dumb is because you have an epic brave anti-PC opinion.

I don't even need a deep intellectual discussion. There's not even a mention of a single factor of why anyone enjoyed this movie in this topic, other than "I liked it".

I apologize for any over aggressiveness in this topic prior to that, the overzealous jabs at Boyhood were pointless. Though I can't really say I'm sorry about anything once foolmo starts posting.

Yes, it was minor. I had more to go off of it and elaborate on once a conversation began, and I've got quite a lot to say about the movie past that, but I don't tend to make long drawn out posts until I'm sure a back and forth is going to happen, not to mention the previously stated mobile issues, so I started small.

And then foolmo posted so any hope of that ended.

Dunkirk was excellent. Not sure if its Nolan's best film like some are saying (but didnt some say that about interstellar too for its first few weeks?), but its definitely at least upper mid tier.

Things I liked that are small spoilers at best
1) The faint ticking clock sound throughout the film
2) The fact that they dont refer to names very often in the film (some didn't like this aspect, but I thought it was kinda cool)
3) The way they linked 3 stories together, each spanning different amounts of time (land - one week sea - one day, air - one hour)
4) Kenneth Branagh's scenes
5) Mark Rylance's scenes, he was kinda the compass of the film in a way
6) Harry Styles was surprisingly good, he was getting unfair criticism from people I talked to before seeing the film. Not sure if that was happening on a national level conversation though

Overall its entertaining and tells a great story, and perhaps until this movie one of the most under talked about and underappreciated heroic decisions of WW2

Man, none of this is true.

Even on the level of just the disagreements in games, the way those conversations went was you making a statement about how much you didn't like something, me disagreeing and stating some reasons, then you flying off the handle and posting a.bunch of insults, even going to oersonal insults pretty much straight away. It was all really confusing stuff at the time because I just didn't know how you were. I couldn't believe how volatile you were about it, having never really noticed your posts before.

I'm sure you'll deny this. He said she said BS is pretty much pointless in this case really.

I've unfortunately not seen Interstellar yet. My favorite Nolan film is still The Prestige! I've enjoyed all of his movies which is why my coolness on Dunkirk is so surprising to myself. My honest expectation was that because the promotional material hadn't gotten me hyped that my lack of excitement was going to end up making it blow me away, but that didn't work out. I feel I honestly may have walked out around the hour mark if someone wasn't with someone. Thankfully I didn't.

1) this was pretty great, though I didn't notice it a ton other than once or twice. There was another particular grungy score that stood out.

2) Not so much an issue with a lack of names, but there were several points towards the end where I didn't know who was who or what was happening in what order. I don't know when the French guy died or if he even did. I don't know who poked their head out into the fire. I don't know who was specifically left to drown in the collapsed boat. I couldn't tell who the drinking and eating guy on the train at the end was. Maybe it was intentional to magnify the chaos, but there was a 5 minute period where I pretty much lost track of everything.

3) I like this idea a lot in theory and think it was well done. It just didn't end you working for me. Not thatbthat part was confusing, I just got kind of tired of every time a "reveal" happened.

4) He was noticeably awesome. Wouldn't want to see.more of him beamcause the savcarcity made it work.

5) agreed.

6) I wasn't a huge fan of him, though I was unable to really tell him apart from Fionne Whitehead often. I had no idea who he was before this, though. Some singer?

Overall its entertaining and tells a great story, and perhaps until this movie one of the most under talked about and underappreciated heroic decisions of WW2

Tbh I think the problem with people on this board is that they feel they need to belittle people they obviously don't want to have a conversation with, for valid reasons or not, and would rather not try to have more productive dialogue if they actually want to reply to them.

Thus, it makes surfing through a lot of topics pretty unenjoyable.

Alright I'll give ltm a chance.

Still, to call Boyhood overrated trash. Why did you use those specific words? I get not liking a movie, everyone has a few films they dislike that have received critical acclaim.

I mean a 100% movie being overrated, sure it can happen. When you call it trash, you're putting in the 0-30% range. That puts it in the Jack and Jill range. So of course you can't act surprised when people disagree with that assessment.

Now let's take Mark Kermode's radio show review of the film.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6J2g4LX7sg

You said the shooting period was irrelevant, but that point gets refuted.

praised as a masterpiece of cinema because of how it was made,

In the 8 minute review, how much of the praise concentrates on that point? Not that much.

But this isn't just about Boyhood, let's see what your thoughts are on other critically acclaimed films. You showed such strong opinions and appear to be eager to debate the quality of a movie. I mean you are lamenting why so few people will talk to you about Dunkirk.

I'd be happy to see what your views are on the following critically acclaimed films:

Aguirre: Wrath of God
La Dolce Vita
Cinema Paradiso
Chungking Express
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
Breathless
Don't Look Now
Sonatine
The Asphalt Jungle
In the Mood for Love
The Deer Hunter
Rome, Open City
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
The Conversation
The Conformist

Now that's a pretty wide selection of acclaimed films. Some are better than others and they cover a very wide range of taste.

I assume you've seen at least half of these, but let's get a cursory opinion on them and then if you feel like it, we can go over these films and talk about them without using words such as "trash", "garbage" and "overrated".

I know a few users have talked glowingly before about some of these films. People do occasionally want to check out what all the fuss is about.

They have received strong acclaim for a reason. Even if you don't like the film as a whole, they generally have a lot of discussion points.

The Asphalt Jungle is an excellent heist fllm

Don't Look Now, stars Donald Sutherland and is one of the more interesting horror films I've seen.
