I'm playing it again with friends (First time ever playing multiplayer).

I started with Axton, but his annoying turret would kill enemies we needed for fight for your life (works for me but not team mates), and he really didn't have a good team mod.

My friends are playing Krieg and Maya.

So I switched to Salvador (leveled him up solo quickly to 10 so I was fairly close to the old level (14)).

Salvador has the nice ammo regen mod, which is very useful for us, but....with insane amounts of eridium (one of my friends is the god of luck and keeps winning eredium jackpots on the slot machine), the ammo regen is nice, but not super important anymore.

I'm not 100% against playing a chick char if it really helps our team out, and two Maya's would stack nurse mods for double the hp regen, and having two players that can heal everyone with their shots (launchers ftw probably), would be really nice. I like Maya's super power the most, as it's really effective (also takes out flying creatures fast).

Zero really wouldn't work with our team. And I always found the Mechmancer over powered (High anarchy + the recochet shot (50% damage but all bullets auto hit)).

So pretty much gotta decide if I wanna keep playing as the Gunzerker (ammo regen may still be nice sometimes), or switch over to another Maya (double health regen for the whole team from 2 nurse mods + 2 chars able to heal with gun shots ftw).

So if you played, what was your favorite character and why, especially if you played with others.

Krieg for fun. Someone had a lot of fun writing his lines.
Gunzerker for raids. He just does so much damage, and with the Grog Nozzle he puts out sexy slag and self-heals too.

I never played multiplayer. My favorite was Axton, by far. Gaige was okay. I didn't care for Krieg, Salvador, or Maya. I hated Zero.

Yeah, gaige is so tempting but I think OP and nobody else would have fun if I played her.

2 Maya's would be powerful, but wouldn't ruin the game, but I may just stick with Salvador since he does more damage.

I started out as Maya, but then I fell in love with Gaige. Mecromancer is by far my favorite class in any of the Borderlands games.

Bought the game of the year ed and only played as the Mechromancer. Put about 10+ hrs in but haven't played for awhile.

I do enjoy the summoning ability since I usually use quite a bit of conjuration in Elder Scroll games.

Just got done playing (another 6 hours or so). We seem to play that just about every night.

Yeah, salvador is working pretty well. I love revolvers in the game, and he works well with them (since I can dual wield them). I have a slag revolver in my off hand, and the highest damage revolver I can get for my primary.

I switch the primary out for elemental of the right type based on enemies I'm fighting as well.

We just got our 4th weapon slot though, so now I have both a sniper rifle and shotgun in my 3rd and 4th slots.

I may eventually just go for 2 shotguns to dual wield those for point blank ownage while zerking (I have the skill that boosts damage if you use 2 of the same type of weapon).

I imagine 3 mechromancers would be pretty silly powerful though lol. 3 summons + 3 chars with maxed anarchy and auto-hit with bullets. Everything would just die.

Can't go wrong with salvador. He's top tier at any stage of the game, build him right and you'll always feel powerful.

Mechromancer, She's my most used even now, Started out with a combo of the middle and some of the left tree, to make me and Deathtrap more powerful, ESPECIALLY that "Health Regen at full clip" skill, I didn't touch Anarchy until much later in the game personally.

Most other characters I've ever played as I found......not as fun as Gaige, boring even, I dunno why, I just enjoyed her character and playstyle WAY more than all the others, I mean Krieg's dialogue I found funny, but I could never see myself playing as him....

don't bother being support siren. cataclysm siren is the way to go

Jen is our Siren and she likes being support/healing (and now she can bring us up with her super power which is awesome).

I'm rocking it as Salvador now that I have a slag weapon in my off hand. I also got a nice shield that is high capacity AND adds 480 max health (about 1/3 of my normal max health). This now sets me at over 1k shields and 1.5k health, so i'm WAY harder to take down anyway.

Slag on off hand just ensures we all do tons of damage on any big monster, so we just thrashed the entire caustic area last night (like 4 quests in there, with tons of bugs and these 4l legged crystal things you need to shoot the legs off).

Starting to feel really powerful as a team. If someone goes down, Jen can pop em back up right away. IF Krieg goes down he gets a grenade and runs around at full speed, so he can run to wherever Jen is to get popped back up (and her power recharges faster then his fight for life).

Meanwhile I have a 1.4 ammo regen mod now, to avoid ammo problems (but we also all have the 100 eridum upgrades for our primary weapons ammo max). I usually run with a shield max + shield recharge mod right now, just for a bit more defense (may eventually switch back tot he +20% gun damage mod I was using, but it drops my shields a bit).

2 sirens would be over kill at this point so glad I didn't bother leveling her up.

I think I took a dirt nap like once last night, and we never party wiped at all.

Gaige

Man, everyone really loves gaige.

If I was playing solo, I would totally go with her as solo is a pain.

I just think she is a bit overpowered compared to the rest, and would kill everything...which wouldn't be fun in a party.

Anarchy (huge damage boost) + the power that makes any misses hit but do 50% damage....is a crazy combo especially with high anarchy stacks (basically you still do over full damage with shots that miss..and accuracy no longer matters).

Shot guns + that combo would be instant kill for almost anything.

I never found Gaige to be OP. Her Mech is cool but it never seemed that strong compared to what some of the other characters get, and I always felt like I wanted more control than having my Mech do the work for me.

Krieg was OP with his specific no-shields setup, doing the highest damage in the game, but that requires farming in the late game. Beyond that, he feels unique to play but his kit has its shortcomings in normal playthroughs.

Maya's Cataclysm build is very, very strong as she can spread all the elements on all the bad guys, and elemental damage is at its strongest in BL2. You probably don't need more than one of the same character, though.

Axton actually can be built well as a support character while doing good damage if you leveled him up some more.Even if the turrets stop your friends from second wind, the turrets can be a decoy while you revive your friends yourself. He's rounds out the team as a good defensive option.

Gunzerker can do a lot of different things and he's probably one of the easier characters to make strong for general use just by equipping your two strongest guns. Back on PS3, he fired miniguns so fast that the game had trouble figuring out where all the bullets were supposed to hit.

Zero has always been a problem for me because my friends playing other characters can clear mobs so much faster than I could with Zero, which made me feel useless sometimes. He really shines at doing high damage to single targets, though. He was insanely popular at launch and the character I have the least experience with in my ~600 hours of playing because all my friends picked him.

except they dont have cata siren, they are using support siren which is the least useful

She can always switch to cata siren later, we are not high enough yet for her to get the skills that would make a cata siren good anyway.

The mech itself isn't great but it has some great support skills that make Gaige practically impossible to kill, in turn protecting your anarchy stacks.

i usually like playing healers/supports the most. support siren just doesnt offer much support. shooting to heal? useless...

It's not the shooting to heal so far (Though I figure using a grenade launcher might provide some fast healing later), but actually the instant rez with her power that is pretty amazing. The baseline hp regen is nice as well (we don't need to worry about it, and we all get it). The shooting to heal hasn't really been useful though, and honestly with the ability to instantly rez us, not sure it'll ever be needed.

Might just have her keep the instant rez + sweet release for additional hp regen when we down one of her phazed enemies, then go down the right tree for elemental damage after that.

Theinstant rez though is golden with 3 of us playing, especially since she likes to use sniper rifles from a distance, lets her just pop us back up if we go down instantly. She regens fast enough to do it for both of us even if we both go down at the same time, and we are much harder to take out now.

Lets me and Seth just focus on offense full out, which rocks, and she still has plenty of fun with the sniper rifles.

Clearly I'm not the one playing Zer0 if I'm playing Salvador, and the Zer0 player refuses to use anything that's not a sniper rifle. I mean it: slots four fucking sniper rifles for different situations.

I think half the appeal of Gaige for me is her dialogue when she summons Deathtrap, along with some of her character-specific lines in the DLC. Her personality is fantastic.

She's great right up until you get to the Raid boss and discover that she's utterly useless. Meanwhile, Zer0's soloing it.

if you need to "save" enemies for fight for your life then perhaps the game is too hard? maybe grind some levels so you can handle it

Trust me, unless a certain build makes him powerful, Deathtrap isn't all that powerful, me and my brother tried out Ultimate Vault Hunter difficulty or whatever the highest is, Deathtrap dies within 10-20 seconds after being summoned, he may be somewhat OP in Normal Difficulty, but on Hard and especially very hard, the AI CAN and WILL kill him if they do enough damage or just gang up on him.

Hell we haven't even made it to Sanctuary on UVH yet, Gaige is so not OP on the harder difficulties, Might have to go back to an Anarchy build if Deathtrap is unable to do anything to these guys.....Granted the AI Levels are scaled to the highest leveled character, which was my brother's Zer0, Level 57, compared to Gaige who's only around 52, But still, even he wasn't doing much to them....

Levels are HUGE in borderlands. There is a lot of behind the scenes scaling and a 5 level difference would make gaige near useless in that scenario

Ahh, I was unaware of how important that was.

Despite me and my brother having played BL2 through with Gaige and Zer0, he played it a LOT more than I did after we beat the game and it's DLC, so it's no wonder he's a higher level, I just really didn't feel like playing all that much afterwords, so either I gotta find a way to catch up to level 57, or since he likes paying him more, he'll have to get his Krieg up to level 52.....

I don't remember the exact details but Krieg was really good when I played through the story solo. It felt like he could never die when he went into his rage mode and then it was really easy to revive if he ever DID die.

Axton by far, didn't really care for the others, though I did beat it as zero and maya and played through most of it as gaige.

In the pre-sequel Athena is even more fun than Axton, and I still haven't tried the other pre-sequel characters.

That's what Anarchy is for.

I'm sure they've fixed it in the collection, but back in the day, the Anarchy stacks would drop to zero because the game sometimes glitched and thought an empty clip meant you manually reloaded. Because of that, I was never able to make Anarchy viable.

Krieg was a lot of fun because of his dialogues/lines.

Gameplay wise, I enjoyed playing Maya the most.

Just got back home. I played some as gaige solo earlier....it was redonkulous.

Seriously. Forget about her summon (which literally could kill entire encounters by itself early on), anarchy with just 1 point is freaking insane right from the start.

I got one of the pistols that gets more accurate as you fire it, so the accuracy penalty had no effect, and just started playing through the game. Not only did accuracy not effect my pistol, but the sniper rifle in my alternative slot also was so accurate that it didn't impact it at all.

I walked through the early game, including the bewm bewm crew super easy, just blowing everything up. I rarely bothered to use her super power as I could just 1 shot sniper kill almost everything before I even got close, and if they did actually aproach me, switch to my pistol to take them out.

So I get to the first fire boss guy (forget his name right now). A bit of history, with Salvador solo (I just did it the day before to level him up for our group), it was Seriously hard to kill the fire guy, at least till I realized I could only really damage him when he was not on fire, and that there was a corner I was safe in from his attacks while I waited for him to not be on fire.

Meanwhile I went into the fight with almost 150 anarchy stacks as gaige. I had a sniper rifle out and shot the boss guy 4 times...and he died. That was it. Didn't take any damage. I had to clean up the little guys all over after that, but yeah....easiest thing ever.

Now I admit, I didn't even try to use a sniper rifle on him as salvador (just used pistols pretty much) so it might have been easier if I had, but yeah, 4 shots and dead. Gaige in the early game at least is freaking silly easy.

Maybe she doesn't scale as well later on, but honestly I don't see how that is true. Even with just 1 point in anarchy and no points in the hit when you miss ability, you get a WAY higher damage multiplier then any other character all together (From just spending 1 point). Other points can boost that a ton as well (Allowing for 600 or so stacks of anarchy being possible), but honestly just 150 anarchy stacks alone is so insane, and works for all guns.

Don't even need to look at other gaige abilities, those alone make her a goddess (The no miss hit + anarchy combo), which only takes 6 freaking skill points all together lol.

Have not looked if she can get +skills to the no miss ability, but if you could get +5 in it, that would mean 100% chance to hit with your bullets that miss and do 50% damage. Things like a decent shotgun would become godlike with her at that point. I can't ever play this with others, but solo....oh yeah. She is my new solo character for sure.
