The cat seemed fine, so I stopped an oncoming car and carried it onto the side walk. I then realized the front of its face was smashed off but the rest of its body was intact. It kept jumping around and hopping until it fell over. Another car was coming so I stopped it and picked it up out of the street.

I put it down and pushed it onto its side. I have no problem putting an animal out of its misery but I just had no way to do it. I put on some gardening gloves and tried to cover the hole where its nose and mouth would be but since the rest of its body was still working, it started thrashing and scratching and kicking at me with its back legs. Same thing when I tried to push down on its chest and keep any air from getting it.

It started hissing, so I just sat there and pet it until it died. It just kept looking at me. Felt so bad for it. If I'd realized how badly it was hurt, I would've left it to get hit by another car. Probably would've been less suffering.

:(

A few years ago a cat darted out in front of my car and I couldn't avoid it. Still think about it every now and then.

Not that I've trying to cast judgement but frankly I've never agreed with the majority opinion that it's better to kill someone/something in pain than let it die on its own, so FWIW, I think you did the right thing.

It really seems self-evident to me. Neither the victim nor the bystander wants it.

it's a tough call, there's some situations where a pet can survive if brought to the vet fast :(.
guess this isn't one of em.

Shame some animals struggle to learn a simple concept like crossing the road safely.

There was a flock of geese that legit used the cross walk and waited on the lights a few weeks ago when I was helping my girlfriend's sister move. They were slow so they ended up holding traffic but it was one of the coolest things.

Back on monday i saw a cat roadkill that was basically flat. It was like someone dropped a fur cloth on the road, but you can see its inside splatter.

Like the cat was literally flat with guts andd brains and blood splatter around the flat skin fur

Yeah, that sucked so much. Poor girl.

Also found a news article ( it is in indonesian tho) cannot find an english one as accident usually dotn attract journos that much

http://www.swamedium.com/2017/07/13/seorang-pengendara-motor-tewas-terlindas-truk-di-cengkareng/

Turned outvit wasnt jaywalking, she was driving a motorcycle, and seeing how average indonesian rides a motorcycle, AND truck driver general shittyness, both sides probably are in fault at least even just a little.

Still awful though.

Also yeah. I am pretty much desensitized to stuff like that now. My first time witnessing human roadkill was around grade 6 where i saw a man's guts unrolled on the road.

At grade 4 i saw a kid drowned in a pool. They tried cpr, chest pumping everything. He did responded and puked for a second, but after that just silent. In a moment he went pale. His skin slowly turning blue and his lips purple.

I remember the kid's dad running and crying " my son! My son! Somebody save my son! Please!"

That is one of the strongest memory i have of my childhood and i think it broke me somehow. At least it kinda smashed the reality that people die and death is permanent upon my 4th grade's mind'

Much later I realize this is just part of human life and probably the amount of corpses i saw in the end of my life gonna make a pile.

I'm pretty desensitized too. Drivers here are awful.

Just last year I was driving behind a motorcyclist through a light that had been green for a while. A SUV from the other street T-boned him hard in a drive by and spilled the contents of his unhelmeted head across the pavement. My first thought was "not this shit again."

Also get a freaking dash cam. The police will love you when it records an accident.

I am thinkin of getting a dashcam for the sake of idiot motorcycle drivers wrecking my car and pin the blame on me.

That's sad, drownings are super preventable. As far as resuscitation, he probably needed some intravenous epi to reduce the swelling in his throat

i like the idea.... should get the dashcam. some vehicles have them installed so whatever comes in front will know who is in the wrong (could possibly save self from being blamed) if in the right.

I almost drowned in a public pool when I was like 4 because some kid jumped in on top of me and pushed me down the slope into the deep end
