Literally nobody on the planet pronounces it "zed-ro" because it's a word and not a name. "Zed" is the name of the letter itself. Zero is a word that does not contain a 'D' so nobody pronounces one.

Do Americans clap after saying Zed-ro?

When it's kids, it's "bullying" but if it were adults, it's stalking, harassment, assault, criminal threats and just general abuse. -Tmk

So what you're saying is Zee is the correct pronunciation and everyone who says Zed are wrong

Or, y'know, they're both right?

Just like 'B' is pronounced BEE in English and BAY in French. They're both right because it's a different language.

American English and British English are different languages. They're just far more similar than most other languages tend to be since they used to be the same, but have gradually developed relatively independently (and haven't had nearly as much time of independent development as the various languages derived from Latin, for example). You could argue that they're dialects of the same language if you wanted to, but even then it still means both are correct as a dialect is pretty much just a different acceptable method of pronouncing the same words.

I just want to say that the name of the letter doesn't always equate to its own pronunciation.

Unless you think "word" is pronounced "doubleyooord"

Zed is the name of the letter in some languages, however, English is not one of those languages. So for the context of any discussion being held in the English language, it's "Zee"

Other languages call it something else entirely. In Italian, it's "Zeta" That's also a Greek letter but I know know if that letter is the same between Greek and English.
