This reminds me of that video where someone bought a tin of unopened card packs that had some kind of misprint, so it cost thousands of dollars, and since he hit a certain amount of subscriber count, he said he'd open 5 of them or something on camera, even though it was likely to be a huge mistake. Then it turned out he got both a Blastoise and Charizard in them and freaked out.

I can't find it, though. Anyone remember what I'm talking about?

His girlfriend laughed at him and he seemed very embarrassed.

Break up with her imo.

That site says holofoil Gyarados is under $4 >_>

Read my posts again.

Almost all of the Gyarados seem to be fodder! It's kinda fun just looking stuff up and seeing estimated values though. Either this site doesn't do DBZ or the old DBZ ones I have are worthless.

Gyarados printed as a nonfoil is what is worth the money.

Don't think I have a non-foil one. I might, but I'd probably have to look through like 5-10k Pokemon cards to find it >_>

I'm pretty sure I have a non-foil Gyarados but I'm pretty sure it's damaged as shit too unfortunately. (or maybe it's just so damaged the "foil" is worn away I'm not sure)

I kinda doubt my local comic shop would take them for much though. They were selling New 52 variants when they first released for like 10-30x the cover price >_>

Most valuable Pokemon card I have is a first edition Lugia from Neo Genesis in near mint condition. I have a lot of Base Set holos, but none of them are first edition and most would be graded at like 7 or less.

Yeah, my customers don't come in for stuff like that at all. They generally just want the single issues at the cheapest price possible.

As a kid we had a friend in our group who wasn't into pokemon, he was pretty much the only one. So when we went to a game store one day we were joking that he should buy a pack since he was the only one who didn't care he would probably get something awesome. He actually ended up buying a pack and of course got a holo charizard. We were sooooo pissed lol.

How much does your shop compare to the market value of the cards on that site?

Holy shit. I wish I held onto some of my old cards instead of selling them off a long as time ago. I had FULL SETS of like most of base through fossil. That means 4 of each card.

Yeah this is the biggest contrast I see in the 2 games. With Magic, the older cards are always going to be the most powerful to ever exist, and the power has decreased over time. The older formats, while not exactly well-off right now, at least have a reason to go back and play them. With pokemon, the opposite has happened, where HP and damage numbers have gone up. This means that older formats are nonexistant because, well, why would I want to go back and use a less powerful charizard? Like you could just use a standard deck in an extended tournament and roflstomp, where in magic if you used a standard deck in even a modern tournament, you would get laughed out the building.

That's probably the one thing I don't like about Pokemon. Back when I used to play the Pokemon TCG (in Gen I and II), I had a deck built around the destructive power of Chansey since it was one of the few Pokemon capable of one hit KOs on most Pokemon. Now I can't even use that deck against today's modern cards as it would get roflstomped. Not that it matters because my deck wouldn't be considered tournament legal since older sets are routinely phased out of play completely, meaning you'd have to keep buying newer cards to make sure your deck stays tournament legal.

As for the oldest Pokemon card sets, they did release a new set of Pokemon cards called "XY—Evolutions" which went back and reprinted a lot of the cards from the Gen I sets with buffed HP and attack damage for the modern TCG game.

The only comic shop in town I know of doesn't buy cards. Don't think my small town has a card shop either. Oh well I wasn't expecting anything anyways.
