Are you suggesting that the government is holding back people from becoming doctors or that in a free market someone can just open a clinic and call themselves a doctor?

The reason we don't have sustained, net-gain nuclear fusion reactions is because either the tyrannical government is constricting the free market and preventing its discovery, or because there's no demand for it.

Both.

Not only would more people be able to call themselves doctors in a free market, but even if you assume the standards don't change, in most states, the government strictly controls the opening of new medical schools and/or hospitals that they do not believe are "necessary." You have to ask permission to open either (and I don't mean "prove that your facility is within standards," I mean "before you are allowed to have one they have to agree that society needs it") which artificially reduces supply by a great deal.

In a universe where scarcity exists, people die "unnecessarily" all the time. MOST deaths are probably unnecessary in the sense that SOMETHING could have been done to prevent, or at least delay them.

That doesn't even seem like trolling anymore. It just makes him seem like he has the mind of a child.

Either Ulti is playing everyone, or everyone is feeding his unhealthy habits. Neither scenario helps.

Calling out a double standard is not trolling just because democrats say it is. You guys all wanted Comey fired, then all complained the second he got fired. That isn't something I just made up out of no where. It actually happened. It's also only one example of the dozens given in the image. I was attacking the media, not you guys :)

it's not a double standard. You can want a thing to happen and then still have an issue with the manner in which it happens.

like if I wanted the local Burger King to close and then someone set the Burger King on fire I can still say "hey woah you shouldn't set Burger Kings on fire" even though the fire caused the Burger King to close like I wanted

by lowering the cost of care, it's entirely possible a free market in medicine would save more people than it killed due to lack of regulations or whatever

(and of course you all know there wouldn't be "no regulations", there would just be private regulatory bodies instead of government ones)

It's also possible that with a free market in healthcare, more people will die, because more people will live, as the total population rises in response to the death rate falling.

To clarify on a comment called out on me earlier when I said low-education voters legitimized Donald: it's correct not to assume "low-education" inherently means "dumber" -- I say this in defense of getting better categorization.

My Theatre degree won't ever fix my car. I get that, and there are people smarter than me who didn't get their degree; there are specialists I need in my life like mechanics who never bothered with college. I'd like to see some more specific categories to make sure they don't get compounded with the know-nothing brain slugs of the world. As is though, we see some truly dumb and uninspired people rightfully grouped as low-education alongside plumbers and many others we regularly count on being skilled. I'd like to see that separated more so I don't have to sound like I'm calling people who have helped build some of the homes in my life stupid.

But with that said, like, if you're challenging the idea that the people who focus on a higher education aren't as smart as the people who don't focus on a higher education, I'll roll the dice on the educated most of the time. There's a reason the Guru cookie crushes the GameFAQs average in contests here, even if they don't always get #1. They're not always right, but I like their odds.

I think it's a sad state of affairs when the statement 'educated people are smarter than uneducated people' is something that causes a debate. Yeah it's not necessarily someone's fault if they don't have an education, and they would most likely be just as smart as the educated people if they had gotten one. It also doesn't matter at all in the slightest for the purposes of this conversation. Educated people BY DEFINITION know more and prioritize knowledge acquisition more than uneducated people do. On average, the educated person is going to know what the right thing to do with their vote is more often than an uneducated person would, simply because they know more.

I keep coming back to one quote recently that's always stuck with me - "democracy is saying that my ignorance is as important as your knowledge". It seems pretty damn relevant these days! Ignorance is excused to an absurd degree and it's ridiculous. We live in an age where information is the easiest to come by its ever been. You still have to be careful due to FAKE NEWS (I mean actual fake news) but FAKE NEWS has existed in every point at history.

I'll be blunt - out country is fuckin' stupid and prizes ignorance. There's a reason that we're basically the only major country in the world that didn't agree to the Paris Accords. There's a reason we're one of the lowest believers in evolution in major countries in the world. In the US, ignorance is not only accepted, but encouraged as an alternative to science and reasoning.

Personally, I revised my opinion on Comey when he held a press conference to deny Trump's accusation of "wire taps", and in so doing showed that he was not going to do nothing while the President of the United States spouted baseless nonsense on Twitter. This happened before Trump fired him (and was, I expect, the real reason Trump fired him: he dared contradict the boss.) I don't think I am the only Democrat to see this event as significant!
