I beat Diablo as a Warrior, Diablo II as a Necromancer, and Diablo III as a Wizard. This includes the expansions.

I know I'm late to the party, but Diablo II is very clearly the best of the three. Summoning a giant army of skeletons and cursing stuff was a blast. I actually beat Baal with only one skeleton remaining. The goddamned skeleton mages died instantly while fighting Baal and Diablo, they were just useless. I'm a little torn, though, because I couldn't really recommend it to someone who's like fourteen now. That was a normal game when I was a kid, so I don't mind the way it aged, but someone who isn't used to that kind of thing would probably find it to be unplayable. And if you care about plot in Diablo, Diablo III's is clearly the dumbest.

Not sure if I'll ever play Diablo II again. I've heard the druid and assassin are the worst classes.

The areas were more interesting, the plot (lol) was less stupid, the building of a character was more complex and interesting, and the necromancer was really fun and silly. Also, the cutscenes are inexplicably better than Diablo III's, in that they aren't just that cheapo 'medieval scroll with ink moving around on it to pretend it's a cutscene' method Diablo III uses.

Both are much worse than the others. Paladin is full easymode (particularly when geared), Necro is pretty simple if you play zoo, Trap Assassin is very safe, Sorceress has lots of options and Druid...I forget what they had but I know it was OK. But yeah, Barb and Amazon both had issues.

I haven't used it, but I know they nerfed the number of skeletons and skeleton mages now only last ten seconds before dying.

Charged Boltress was my jam back in the day. Amazon with windforce/buriza as well. Pally overall is probably the best though

Yeah every class is viable - it's just that barbs get screwed by how meleeing is sadtimes in D2, and Amazon's just 'eh'. That doesn't make them unplayable or anything tho.

Diablo II was my favorite PC game at one point in my life. It still may be one of the best but I suspect it has aged badly.

No. You're factually, massively wrong. Necro is one of the easiest and best classes (alongside Paladin) precisely because it clears fast and is basically impossible to immunity-screw, because of Corpse Explosion. Due to how stupidly fat enemies are Hell mode, it becomes an insane nuke. It's why nobody likes dealing with the Nihlathak segment of Act 5 too - because the damage he does with Corpse Explosion is much higher than most bosses do with even their best moves. The worst is Barbarian because Diablo 2 hates the concept of letting a guy play melee in peace when bullshit like MSLE exists, with Amazon being weak just because its class design doesn't really work as well at coming together as every other class. This isn't really arguable.

Assassin can solo hell naked too IIRC

but yes Necro is super good - it tapers off at the very very highest end, vs ultrageared hammerdins and such, but at anything less than absolute top end play it's incredibly broken.
