Really? This is the worst? Not the whole death penalty for gays in Uganda thing?

You know I hate huff po as much as the next guy but you're really reaching if that headline bothers you. They're obviously referring to American legislation, not ever in the history of mankind.

Worst is clearly hyperbole, but it basically allows people to do everything short of actually attacking people for being queer. Think of NC's bathroom bill, only it's now applicable to all people judged by an individual to be LGBT and can be invoked by all business owners, and even offices funded by state tax dollars. Its reach is broad and extremely open to interpretation, all in the name of 'protecting religious liberty.'

If someone's 'religion' said black people were evil, would this allow them to discriminate against black people?

Yeah, you'd have to be a fundie nutjob to actually support this. Fucks over non LGBT people too.
a government clerk could refuse to issue a marriage license to a couple because one person had been previously divorced;

a taxpayer-funded adoption agency could refuse to place a child with a happy and loving family because the parents lived together before they were married;

a taxpayer-funded organization that provides shelter to kids who have suffered child abuse could turn away a pregnant teenager;

a counseling group practice could refuse to see a mother and her teen who is experiencing severe depression because the woman is unmarried;
a counselor could refuse to help an LGBT person who called a suicide hotline;

a fertility clinic could refuse to treat a veteran and his partner because they are not married;

a car rental agency could refuse to rent a car to a same-sex couple on their honeymoon;
and
a corporation could fire a woman for wearing pants.

I would like to point out that laws like these are strikingly similar to the laws Trump and Pence were promising to push and protect last year during one of their meetings with some Christian advocacy groups last year. I would've loved to see some of the people accusing us of being hysterical eat some crow, back when their word still meant something. Instead, they can choke on it.

And how do you suggest the American court would be able to affect laws in another country? Tired old argument.

I highly doubt Kennedy would though.

Alito (probably), Thomas (almost definitely), Gorsuch (yes), Roberts (hard to say)

The 4 lefts would never say yes, so even if those 4 vote yes, it's down to Kennedy

It's pretty disgusting tbh. Like, you have these ultra conservative religious people who so passionately hate LGBT and will stop at nothing to be able to legally discriminate against them.

Like what the fuck man, why so much hatred.

Yes.

Dipshit conservatives think religious freedom takes priority over all other freedoms, by very, very far. I wish religion had something good going for it besides the off chance that one of them is correct, but it just plain doesn't.

I live here. There are too many "Christians" who are nothing but hypocritical assholes who want to fuck over anyone who they don't like.

All a politician has to do is bring up Jesus, stopping abortion, or saving the state/country from "anti Christian" legislation or beliefs and they have guaranteed votes. People will sacrifice their own rights and comforts and the rights of others just because "their guy" loves Jesus and will keep America a Christian nation.

This is just another law thrown out there to pander to those voters while the politicians continue to fuck them and rob them blind.

And they wonder why MS is always considered the worst state in the union and why people think Mississippian are all morons.

Yes, LGBT Americans should revel in the fact that they can't be put to death like in Uganda. That is the standard developed nations should be held to. "Better than the death penalty in Uganda". Anything more than that is gravy.

It is to protect businesses from having to do what they do not want to.

If a business wants to lose money based on belief; another will gladly accept the job.

In other words; it makes the business model a more capitalist model.
