Yea isn't "Build the Wall" their own chant and what trump supporters want. You're flaunting being a Trump Supporter but that made you embarrassed? If I wore a Bernie shirt and they put one of his talking points or "Feel the Bern" on my cup I don't think I'd be upset, even if they did it sarcastically. "Build the Wall" is literally something trump supporters openly chant and believe.

For reals. Which is why its so weird to see all these posts agreeing that the slogan was definitely offensive but they're all lacking in specifics. None are addressing how that slogan is supposed to be offensive to her or what the issue is in repeating it to a person who supports the man.

Its not so much 'offensive' as it is unprofessional. Write the person's name on the cup; and be done with it.

This. It's the principal.

I don't care if I agree with you, I don't go to retail stores/chains to hear your opinion on politics/religion/current events.

All she did was use an innocuous slogan (for a Trump supporter) as a name. That's not stating an opinion on anything other than noting what kind of shirt she wore. If she wore a shirt with flowers on it, would a cup that said "floral shirt" constitute a call to corporate?

Yeah. Whoever did that should be fired simply because you do not bring politics into your job (especially when you deal in service). Putting anything other than the name on the cup is unprofessional.

This.

Surprised to see people on CE take this route. I could give a shit about your politician preference, just do the job your being paid to do and show some common curtesy.

No one supporting this can pretend they're anything but immature.

but he /she didnt do anything wrong !

she is a trump supporter ! "build a wall " is something they say all the time
isnt something people say to insult trump supporters !

Woman gets BUILD THE WALL written to her. Gets offended.

she's literally admitting at her own embarrassment and denial for something she's supposed to be supporting

Was she chanting that too? Is it possible she voted for trump or supported him for literally any reason but the wall?

For all you know she's opposed to the wall. GTFO with this ignorant immature bullshit.

It's not a big deal but defending it is pretty fucking telling that you're not unbiased in this situation, quite conversely you're pleased some petty act of revenge was taken. Pathetic.

I'm gonna assume, so I may look like an ass, but as much as the mention of Trumps name enrages people, I doubt the employee was doing it as an identify marker of the person or as a innocent joke. As we can see from this thread people take their political party shit way too seriously. If she were wearing a floral shirt and the employee wrote "floral" I don't see how the gal would have been offended by that.

I may not agree that a shirt with Trump name on it should in of itself be controversial, but apparently it is and that's why I imagine the employee did what she did.

I'm not "going low" in an attempt to rub it in. I'm somewhat exaggerating to prove a point. Many ITT and many trump supporters would just say "get over it. It's just words. Stop being a PC baby"...but when it happens to their own it's "how shameful. How unprofessional!"...maybe there are offensive things that might just be words but should be called out? Maybe calling it out shouldn't label you a cry baby sjw? I thibk what the barista did is dumb too. She shouldn't be attacked for it in this way. That said it's rather tame compared to other hate speech and slurs that many are told to just "get over"...

Not you. I meant her and the others you see pop up in similar (and often far worse) situations.

This is pretty minior, but it still is hypocritica, immature, unnecessary, and rude.

Also I personally call those trump supporters out too. I call out any side/person that makes a stupid remark (including when I do so myself). Because of this I just call any situation like I see it, as unbiased as I can (which is obviously not always).

Edit: let me put it this way. A common defense is "but Hillary". I hate that defense because it's a cop out in a lot of situations but whatever I understand it.. so why turn around and have people defend it by crying "but Trump"...

Do certain people not see how ridiculously stupid that makes them look?

Read the first page. You do realize you can vote for someone and not be 100% for every single thing they stand for right? Maybe she doesn't like the whole wall idea. Sure there were supporters using that at rallies but who's to say she was one of them? I thought liberals hated stereotyping and were all about individuality yet apparently that only applies to the small group of things they like.

And even if she was, just write the fucking name on the cup and go about your day.

Probably shouldn't be wearing his campaign gear then...

You should be able to express yourself without backlash. If she supported Trump; good for her. People may not like it, but there is no reason to make a complete fool of yourself and get fired/reprimanded over it.

EDIT: What happens if she had a gay rights shirt on and her cup had some slur written on it? Is that okay?

Hopefully you can see the difference between supporting gay rights and supporting a man who indulges in racism and xenophobia.

So one is fine and one is not because of who it is?

Also, what has Trump done that has explicitly been racism or xenophobia? Whenever I ask this question, I get statements that are not backed by actual facts; but instead based on 'interpretations.' I want concrete support for this claim; something that would hold up in a court system, for example.

??

just being racist isnt a crime

I am aware. I want proof of his 'racist' actions though. Everything that has been told to me has been an interpretation, false, or just very vague. I want concrete proof.

I'm sure millions of Americans want concrete proof he paid all his of taxes...

But not everyone that voted Trump likes the wall idea. That's not a slogan all Trump supporters use. Thats a chant for a specific subset of his supporters. The general slogan for his campaign is MAGA. There are supporters of his that pretty much just vote Republican for less taxes, and they pretty much know Mexico isn't paying for this stupid wall so if it does get built it's going to fall on the US government to pay for it which will mean more taxes. It's not something everyone wants. The mistake that many in this topic and what this barista did is assume this lady is part of the subset that wants the wall. For all we know she's not and that could be why she's offended.

Secondly, as has been stated many times, this is not how someone whose job is to serve customers should be treating customers especially if the customer wasn't doing anything wrong and just wanted a damn cup of coffee.

My argument was not that hating on someone was wrong, just that she's a moron who reaped what she sowed and had the audacity to cry about it afterwards.

Just wish hate would stop being used to attack hate. All it does is breed even more hate and contempt.

Kek, you don't vote for a man who you don't fully agree with and you CERTAINLY don't wear his campaign apparel.

Because one aspect of his campaign is all encompassing, apparently.

What bubble do you live in? How do you get this far in life with so little outside perspective?

It was certainly on of the biggest parts of his campaign.

Well the most vocal for sure but of the trump supporters I know and have met about 10% support the wall. The rest do it for other reasons, some fair, some stupid. Some support him because they hated Hillary which while I disagree with doing still isn't the same as "wanting the wall".

I shouldn't have came on so strong but you made it seem like you couldn't picture someone voting for trump who didn't want the wall which you'd have to pretty much have to live under a rock to believe.

Why the hell do you keep on thinking that a t-shirt is meant to show nuance? If you wear a Power Rangers shirt people are going to assume you like Power Rangers. They're not going to stare at it and figure out that you actually detest the show and are only wearing it because you lost a bet.

Let's use your example. Maybe that person likes 4 rangers and hates the 5th and you make a statement directed at him liking that 5th ranger.. that would be pretty stupid on your part. You don't have to investigate to figure it out, instead you could just ignore it like a grownup.

If you wear a shirt with something to comment on, people are going to comment on it. Have you never worn an article of clothing that people have commented on?

I have. I also said I wouldn't mind if I was in her position.

That doesn't mean she wasn't wrong for doing it. That's like saying girls with low cut shirts shouldn't complain about a remark towards them. Yes that's the extreme side of it but just because someone's wearing something doesn't mean you get to say what you want about it without repercussions especially when representing a company.

Edit: let's be clear, if this wasn't at work I wouldn't be talking about it period.

I can't draw a conclusion about your sample size... He certainly is adamant about building the wall.

Edit: No harm, no foul.

Well yes he is. Not all his supporters are though.

That's where my trouble lies. Not only was it done at work, defending it sets a precedent that it's alright to stereotype or assume things about people out the gate.

Hell this has nothing to do with the topic but look at The baseball shooting, for all we know the only congressman hit was the one actively trying to tone down trump but since he's connected to the party he's fair game no matter what.

There is a prerty significant difference between hating on someone for their sexual orientation or color of their skin and hating on someone for their actions or just being an awful and stupid person. My argument was not that hating on someone was wrong, just that she's a moron who reaped what she sowed and had the audacity to cry about it afterwards. You'll get alienated for your opinions, and there are parts of the world where you could be killed for them.

I should have been more clear. I meant no harm as far as your bubble comment.

I don't feel that shooting was strong enough basis to make a comparison. All the same, a large part Trump's campaign was built on the bolded above. To blanket an entire group is grossly unfair.

All the same, we don't know what the Barista's intentions were.

Unrelated: And while I understand that this is America, Japan is still majority Xenophobic and I'll be the first one to admit it.

Trump supporters chanting ''BUILD THE WALL!''

Pathetic.

Please take a moment to read and see how stupid you sound. And again, reiterates my statement on just how hypocrital and stupid Trump supporters make themselves out to be
