I tread this landmine of a topic.

For some it could be part of it. The one thing that unites most of these shooters is that they typically suffer or suffered from depression. That can be influenced by genetics and lifestyle but it can also come from frustration or regret over the way life has turned out or bad things that have happened to them. Mental disorders can be a painful thing, and sometimes people deal with pain by building anger.

Then why aren't there more of them? By that logic, a third of high schools should be shot up, bombed, or stabbed on a regular basis. And why are the problems so recent if gun control was practically non-existent in the past and high schools even had rifle clubs so access to a weapon was no problem?

Doubtful. I'm a bitter, jaded 30 year old virgin and I've no intention in going on mass murder sprees. It wouldn't make much sense to do that either. As if I were sexually frustrated I'd just pay for it.
