As for Brad vs. Spencer, they had the same ending, sure. But Spencer turning into a whiny brat zero vote getter in the finale is a wilder swerve than Brad, who had a quieter edit than you hyped most of the season, suddenly turning into an asshole (and getting three votes to win). The end result of Game Changers made complete sense. Cambodia did not.

I prefer Spencer's wilder swerve to Brad's, I guess. Brad's loss was so one-dimensional, and it was to Sarah to boot.

A part of me likes the #blindside of Spencer's loss. It was so sudden and unexpected given the entire season. Brad's was fairly quiet and muted, like you said. And I find Brad less compelling than Spencer, anyway.

I'll need to rewatch Cambodia, though.

Despite Tasha getting shat all over by the edit, she got the EXACT vote count as golden boy Spencer. That's HORRIBLE storytelling.

Won't argue with you there! It is horrible storytelling. All of this is horrible storytelling though. But the extremity of Spencer's swerve, to me, is more amusing.

Tasha should've gotten more, to a similar degree as Spencer. Or Spencer gets less. Troyzan should've gotten more. But at least Tasha got something. Troyzan got nothing.

As much as I love editing, I don't think Survivor does a great job with their narrative. I think this is largely due to the process which they edit the seasons. Different teams take over different episodes.

Troyzan's story was that he did nothing to warrant votes. Tasha's was that she was a bitch. Not only would I rather watch an irrelevant finalist like Troyzan, but also, I had extremely low expectations that he surpassed by NOT being an over-the-top, obnoxious ass. Tasha, meanwhile, went from sassy underdog to bitchy over dog a la Stephenie, which is far worse.

I would say Troyzan didn't even have that story. He just wasn't shown, nobody commented on him, nothing. No presence. He had no story whatsoever.

Alright, Genius S2 finished.

Very happy Sangmin won, although I was starting to come around to the idea of Yohwan taking it, he played the final games pretty well, and Sangmin really kinda botched Indian Hold 'em.

The season as a whole was definitely not as good as the first, but it was still a fun watch. I think the game selection was better, although there were a lot less moments of note throughout the season. Nothing like Jinho's Open Pass strategy, or Sangmin bribing Jinho with his own garnet. The closest thing was the fake token of immortality, and that whole thing just had me feeling bad for Doohee.

Also, even though I love Sangmin, this season kinda had a Redemption Island feel, where Sangmin is a B. Rob analogue. A lot of the main matches were kinda gifted to him by the other players and guests. Not that he didn't deserve to win or anything, but he did have somewhat of a cushy path to the end.

Still hyped for more of this show though.

I'm glad they brought back Hweejong. He seemed like one of the more interesting of the S2 cast, but got cut so early.

Is this really their fault though? I'm actually asking because I don't know how much they direct people's comments in their confessionals. If Spencer spent the entire season saying he was trying to be more human (whether or not he was actually succeeding) it's not like they can control who the jury votes for in the end to craft a more cohesive story. Maybe that's all the Spencer content they had? His story is that he tried to change and failed.

Well the thing is that we got a TON of Spencer's "I'm learning to be more human" confessionals without any commentary from the other players. I'm sure there were a bunch of comments PRIOR to the finale about Spencer being shit. But we didn't see anything like that.

I'm listening to TEOS Gabon and hearing Rob and Josh talk over everything is making me aware of just how bad every player was. Not character-wise, but strategy-wise. Even the ones I thought were good - or at least decent - are actually pretty crappy. Everyone is terrible at Survivor... except maybe Charlie? Even Marcus royally screws up at the F11/10 in such a bad way.

It's pretty funny. I knew Gabon had terrible strategists but it's basically just a season full of them, almost all 18.

That's just silly, Kenny was there and had a lot of underrated and lesser talked about moves and would've had much less trouble in F6/etc if Sugar had been playing for herself, and not to intentionally make sure she loses to Bob.

Rob just really likes the strategy aspect of the show, he really doesn't care for anything related to the 'culture' of the locations, and he's so-so on character moments.

Gabon is held up by its vast amount of zany characters and its really cool location. Even though I suppose it's controversial, I think it's also pretty reasonable to rank it low if you value strategy--the strategy aspect sucks.

That only happened in like, the last episode. I mean, it's hard to work strategy when there's somebody who's actively trying to sabotage their own game and that of everyone around them because they're a batshit tryhard.

The fact that Kenny's behavior toward the end happened at all is a strong sign to me that he's not that good. He does a terrible job at the F7, the F6, the F5, and his FTC back-and-forth is deplorable.

I think that was the first time in this show I was actively rooting against someone in the deathmatch. Kyunghoon had such a whiny attitude about losing the main match, especially coming from a guy who just stabbed a bunch of people in the back last week.
