Clearly it has problems, and they give us no reason to trust them. Secondly, implementing background checks wouldn't help prevent bad people from getting guns, it would increase the amount of guns circulating the black market. (On my phone right now, not easy to post sources. Can later if you want.) Final thoughts: I grew up in Chicago. Lived there for 23 years. In my experience, more gun control measures = more crime rate. Houston, TX is a very good comparison to Chicago population/diversity wise, yet they have much more lenient gun laws and much less gun violence. I respect your opinion, by the way, and can see the reasoning behind the slippery slope comment... unfortunately that's cause and effect. I believe this type of speculation is fair game because it helps to consider worst case scenario when evaluating risks and consequences. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible?
