What's on the docket?
We've been out of net for a couple of weeks and further tomfrakkery means another several days will go by before it's back. As a result, tragically, we've had to put our anime on hold 'til further notice, but rest assured it's still coming back soon. In the meantime, the non-anime stuff's been keeping us going!

Kanon is about a third of the way through.

Eureka Seven is about halfway through.

Psycho-Pass is about a third of the way through.

Attack on Titan S2 is about a third of the way through.

Persona 5 I'm about... I dunno, 10%? 15%?

Shadow Hearts I'm around the midway point on.

Kingdom Hearts Leon just wrapped 2.5 with and he's on to Birth by Sleep!

Persona 3 Leon has re-beaten and he's back to 4 now!

Pirates of the Caribbean I am now all caught up with and we're ready to see 5!

Star Trek Leon has now seen all three of the new movies to-date for and I'll contemplate what to show him next from the franchise at a later [star]date! They're a fun intro.

Marvel Cinematic Universe we're gonna get started on sometime soon. I've seen most of them but Leon's only seen Iron Man. He wants to watch 'em to get hype for Spider-Man!

Babylon 5 I'm starting a rewatch for because @Eddv just started! This is separate from JZLF dual fare.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I'm maybe gonna jam a replay with during late night hours via mobile.

The Wheel of Time progress halted at the start of Book 4. I'll get back to it soon!

Definitely optimistic! But darker optimistic fare is king. Like DS9 and Babylon 5. Put the characters through the ringer, allow real conflict in the cast, let some of 'em die, question the unflinching utopian ideals, and ultimately find a nice relatively realistic yet nevertheless hopeful future. Bittersweet and melancholy is best but I want a good message about humanity and future in the end.

Space opera has never gotten totally grimdark out of what I've watched, and even like Game of Thrones has far more optimism strewn throughout characters like Jon and Sam and so on than I think pop culture gives it credit for. The totally nihilist stuff never interests me.

I think the most negative thing about GoT is all the peasants who get killed and raped and such, though the show doesn't focus on that part as much as the books do.

Just figured I asked since I watched the first two eps of Gundam IBO, which feels pretty damn negative so far...

D&D glorify violence and remove the ugly parts like that

that's as much as I'll say on the matter though since criticizing game of thrones is a good way to get martyred around here

Iron Blooded kinda went places toward the end I didn't really enjoy, but it's never as heroic as most of the other franchise shows in general, yeah.

I would be curious what Leon thinks of the Borg stuff. I find that when you try to get someone into Star Trek, it's the easiest way. Luckily Next Gen isn't as serialized as later series so you can cherry pick those episodes and not really leave someone dangling.

Although oddly enough, I'm reading the Knights of Sidonia manga now, and I really like that series despite its intense negativity. I guess because it makes more sense in this context? Like, the world's not shitty because humans are monsters, it's shitty because some mindless aliens came along and wiped out humanity. Just feels better grounded.

Kelvinverse -> TNG cherry-picking is my usual go-to initial order with friends, all of whom have ultimately ended up vastly preferring DS9 (because they're all big on serialized stories and more dynamic characters). I've thought about basically just subjecting Leon to the same initial TNG bulrush that I've done to friends like Kiria (Cyril in the Trek ranking topics). I just... it's a little harder here because TNG is so static and its cast chemistry is kinda tone-deaf and sterile for a while, you know? And without as much love for the cast, the Borg stuff and other good-to-great TNG fare always prompts my friends to multitask through it.

Not the... worst fate, but yeah, Star Trek is hard as heck to chomp teeth into. The new movies are easy to hop in, but then all the really good stuff has some serious "early content is rough" disclaimers. I've successfully gotten literally dozens (!) into it through the years, because y'know, it really is good, but yeah.

Anyway, it's a good question. I think he'd be more into the mid-late DS9 Cardassian stuff, and characters like Weyoun. (Jeffrey Combs is SUCH a joy to watch act.)

Another option is just showing him Q episodes. Because you may not like the cast as much, but dammit Q is a joy to watch in virtually every episode he appears.

Playing some Persona 4 Golden before bed. Kanji has already been rescued, so it's just S. Link building until the time limit comes. Working my way through Yukiko's during the day and then both of the Dojimas at night. The janitor and tutor jobs just opened up, so I can start those once I max out Dojima and Nanako.

Not very useful and completely unnecessary.

The only thing I would start doing is making sure you're leveling and melding commands often.The game isn't going to give you Leaf Bracer/Once More/Second Chance for free. May even want to consult a guide if you find yourself needing those abilities.

And depending on the difficulty you chose though you might have to do journal completion to unlock the secret ending.

Trails SC Progress: In Chapter 5. Stopped immediately before things get real. You know the place if you played it. Bose about to learn that here there be dragons.. This is the major turning point for SC IMO, in terms of it becoming truly amazing. Everything from here is just one hell of a ride.

Chapter 5 is where SC goes into strong bouts of overdrive, but I'd argue it had visited the concept of overdrive previously in the excellent Chapter 3!

Oh right, another installment of, "Interesting new events with Olivier around."

Olivier's reaction to getting thrown into the dream world by Luciola in Chapter 4 was pretty good. It's only for a line or two, but he pretty much totally drops the mask and gets as real as he basically gets. Too bad he's usually evasive on it when you follow-up on the airship ride to Bose, although Estelle makes some insights there and Olivier at least gives a few hints.

More Realtalk!Olivier prospects are one of the biggest things I look forward to seeing in further Trails games. I didn't love him as much as some, but he starts off alright and improves considerably. Getting confirmation that he's a real VIP on the international field was a huge moment.

I've seen that Melding Command in the menu, but nothing in it works, so I guess I have to wait for it to unlock properly since the game hasn't really told me anything about it yet.

I forgot to include Usagi Drop in my initial rankings and I somehow noticed at some point it so now it's there. I put it in the "want to watch again" tier because I really enjoyed it when I saw it, but then I have mixed feelings after discovering how the story ended in the manga. One of the greatest conundrums in all of my fandom.
