If it's just sloppily on the lower part of your opponent's leg you could position the bent leg's ankle over the straight leg's shin if you wanted. The hold would be loose as hell though

Another limitation is that a figure four probably wouldn't give you any major injury. It would just be pain management to survive it.

If you have enough control over your opponent's legs to do one in the first place, you're much better off just doing a good kneebar. That's a tap or snap situation.

Yeah, I think even freaking Dolph Ziggler would be more interesting because he's at least got the smug "lol I got this thing twice, and I already cashed it in once already." Baron Corbin will still cut the same boring promos and have his same storylines where he continues to beat people up backstage just 'cause. At least Ziggler has a personality that having the MITB would work well with. For Baron, there really doesn't seem like there's much they can do with him having the briefcase that is anything inventive.

Eh, I think Corbin's more interesting than Ziggler by default just for being a heel that could actually believably beat the heel champ. What makes MitB interesting to me is anticipating when they'll cash it in and if they could win, not the promos they cut because of it. Ziggler is smug and terrible all the time, giving him MitB wouldn't really boost that.

Sami Zayn: Would rather have him get a legit world title win ala his NXT redemption run.
Nakamura: Too big to win via MitB
AJ Styles: I want him to have a similar redemption arc because he turned back face but really didn't redeem himself in any way.
Kevin Owens: Too soon to make him world champ again after a rather lackluster one.
Dolph Ziggler: Is Dolph Ziggler.

I don't see how any of that about Ziggler makes him any less interesting of a MITB holder than Baron Corbin, who has not had a single mildly interesting storyline in his entire time in WWE, and has not cut a single interesting promo in his entire time in WWE.

I'm not saying Ziggler should have won it, but someone brought up that Ziggler would be less interesting with MITB and I absolutely disagree.

The free agent thing is new, so I wonder if that means the plan was accelerated or dropped. Either way, this definitely is a great way to make the B-Brand look like a B-Brand.
