I think there was a TMNT Arcade game on NES that was solid or maybe it was SNES. I can't remember which

You're probably thinking of TMNT IV: Turtles in Time which is on the SNES. However, the NES does also have an arcade port that's ok.

There's also TMNT 3 on NES which is an original game and not an arcade port, but still the same style of game. Better than TMNT 2 if you ask me.

I've already played it. you made a Between Life and Games post about it quite a while ago!

agree that it is a really good game. reminds me a lot of Blitzball, which I'm guessing was inspired by the franchise? I wonder if there are other sports games that use similar mechanics.

Bold = Game I've Played
Italic = High Priority
Star = I've Beaten It

A Bold/Italic combination is something that I have played before but I could see myself playing it again in the near future. I'm still going through the topic and adding "High Priority" flags to some of the recommended series based on feedback but, well, keep in mind that the more things I flag as High Priority the less meaning that it has. So yeah.

I'm currently playing Dr Mario and I played through about half of Mother 1 earlier this year. This topic actually reminded me I should get back to finishing it. But I sort of messed things up because I wasn't using a FAQ and I'm feeling too lazy to do all of the walking required to backtrack and get the things I missed. If it's even possible. I'm not even sure anymore.

I did not curate any of the WazzupGenius nominations because dude submitted a list roughly the size of the entire rest of the list combined.

I should probably clarify 2 of mine. North & South and Spot are both fun games, but they're "mostly" games you'd want to play with a 2nd player as opposed to the computer. Not that you can't still enjoy them that way, but I think they'd be more fun.

S.C.A.T. is like Gradius and Contra raw dogged and had a baby

While I'm at it, I'll recommend Heavy Barrel. Its not quite as good as Contra, but the style is different enough that it warrants a playthrough or two if you want to mix it up

Assuming you're not....going for physical cartridges (cough)

Snow Bros and Rod Land are both arcade style games that are both multiplayer and pretty fun

super rare though

Kung Fu Heroes is another good one. Arcade Style and 2 players

I'll second or third Super Dodgeball. It sounds plain but you seriously gotta check it out. Its part of the Kunio series and its full of crazy attacks and goofy animations. Running throws and running jump throws activate the special moves, so its easy to get into. If you play it with a second person, it becomes less about special attacks and more about normal throws with mind games. It becomes surprisingly mental!

I'm trying to figure out what you're thinking of and I really can't. I'm pretty sure you can go back to anywhere pretty easily, there's a Teleport PSI to take you back to any town.

I guess the first time you go to Magicant it can be a little tough to get back out but otherwise nothing prevents you from walking anywhere.

The one place in MOTHER I would tell someone to use a guide is just for a map of that huge factory

Definitely make sure you end up playing Gimmick! rather than Mr. Gimmick, it's one of those with extra sound channels on Famicom. And unlike with CV3, they didn't rewrite the music on the NES version to make up for it, so some tracks are missing melody lines or other major parts. The only other difference is that you start with 9 lives in Mr. Gimmick instead of 3 in Gimmick!

As for PSI Teleport, I think in that game you just learn it by leveling Ninten high enough.
