Question: I found my old original XBox from back in the day while cleaning my garage.
I checked on Amazon and there are used version of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind available for $6 and up!
The GOTY edition is about $26 and up.
Have you ever played Morrowind?
is it good?
I know there aren't a ton of map markers and no quest markers so it's difficult, but how is the actual game?

I only played about maybe an hour of it, went into a cave after exploring the first town and tried to hit some random enemy dude, after about 3 deaths and several minutes of swinging my sword at him and not doing damage I realized the combat system isn't like the other games and instead you have a chance to hit them I guess based on agility. I promptly gave up playing after that because I absolutely hate games where I can see my attacks hit something but it says I missed.

So yeah I hated it.

supposed to be quite choice, but also quite aged.

i know a few elder scrolls fans that say Morrowind is the best, but that's just an opinion.

if you don't mind a game that is clunky and hasn't aged well, but is still quite massive with depth, then go for it, especially at just a few bucks.

Get it for pc if you can. It's a more recent build than even the goty on Xbox and there're mods to clean up the graphics a little.

It depends on what weapon you were using, but hit % is based on a function of your attributes, skill, level, and luck. It's a minor issue really, once you put a little time into the skills you want to use. this doesn't happen much unless you're fighting something much stronger than you. Progression in Morrowind is a marathon, not a race.

I tried it on the PC but it's aged to ugliness and didn't play all that great for me, but I'm used to consoles. If it played ok on the 360, I'd probably try picking up a cheap copy or whatever.

Eh, either way i don't like it, I may give it another go on PC eventually and get mods to fix stuff I don't want like mentioned.

I've heard many people say that Morrowind is the best Elder Scrolls game.
Does anyone know why this is?
Also, does anyone know if the Bloodmoon and Tribunal dlcs are worth an extra $10-$15, or if I should stick with the vanilla Game?

Probably because Morrowind gave you more options (including flight!) and a larger map. However, the graphics, gameplay, etc, don't hold up.

That's how I see it. I know mods can tweak any of the Elder Scroll games until they are "perfect" but at its default I thought Morrowind offered the most customization and depth. What I thought the later Elder Scroll games did better though was the size of the dungeons. Maybe I didn't explore enough but I thought Morrowind lacked in the dungeon exploring aspect.

Yep, later games had better dungeons. But Morrowind had a better overworld and cities. There were neat things like the mages city, where to get anywhere you actually needed to know the levitate spell. So if were were not a decent magic user, no mage city for you.

Morrowind had an amazing quest log/system that felt very organic and immersive, which required you to pay attention to details.

For example,

NvY5LUV

, as opposed to any modern system where you can just mash enter through a mission briefing, and follow the waypoint on your HUD. Convenient? Yes but it kills some immersion/exploration.

Also, some shit like this.

Aye. It felt more rewarding when you figure it out for yourself and/or by asking around about the subject/quest at hand instead of a waypoint telling you where to go.

Morrowind is more... open. You got a bigger set of skills which adapts to your playing style, which gives a bigger variation in gameplay. More different weapons and you got three different attack styles instead of only one (well, two with powered attack) like in later games. The NPCs got lots to talk about.
Oblivion was more... simplified, just like how Skyrim was simplified compared to Oblivion. They removed an armor class, gave us less weapons, less skills to level up, merging some skills, etc.
So while Morrowind gave you more options and alternatives, it was also less forgiving, harder and easier to mess up if you dont micromanage more. Which is exactly why people loved it.

It certainly is. But the journal had a major flaw. Everything was entered as you came across it. Entries couldn't be sorted by questline. So I often found myself looking things up online because I wasn't able to find a name or location amongst the many, many entries in the journal. It became especially difficult if I took a side track and ended up with lots of new, unrelated entries.

I have read that Tribunal improved the journal with an option to sort entries based on questline. But I never played that.

It fixed it for the whole game. Been too long to remember what was added to the game beyond the content, but if you end up enjoying the base game the extra content is very much worth it.

I have the GOTY Edition of Morrowind for old school XBox, and I agree with what others have said: Yeah, the game hasn't aged well, especially visually (i.e. it really looks like shit; to be honest, there are PS1 games that have held up better than this), but it's still amazing in terms of depth, content, and player choice. The GOG version is probably the one you're looking for, though, for reasons already stated.

Combat takes some getting used to. If your have no stamina you will miss every attack. The game is unleveled and you can run into super strong enemies early on if you wonder around to much. You can kill anyone and everyone, even quest givers. You will get a message saying someone important died though. Armor has a lot more pieces to it. You have to get left and right gauntlets, pauldrons, boots. So you have a total of 10 armor slots. Not every type of armor is a full body suit. Some only have shiled, helmet, chest. Magic is amazing in this game though. It can be customized to ridiculoous OP performances if you have the gems and skill. You can actually become a unstoppable wizard in this game.
