Everyone was like omg you got a German shep as your first dog? Oh you can't do it, you're going to end up giving it away, you should get the dog I tell you that's better

I was like no, I want this fucking dog

He's been great so far. He was obviously going nuts the first night. After his 3rd day he's been great. Never barks unless another dog is messing with him. Doesn't bite anything but his chew toys or lamb bones we got him. We take him out every 2-3 hours and one long walk at the end of the day and take him to play with other dogs at the park. He lays in bed all day playing with toys or napping. He lets us know if he wants to go out.

He has pooping down and only goes outside. His peeing is a work in progress. He won't pee inside where we live but he peed in the elevator and in the lobby leaving. So hes getting used to it. He still pees outside about 75 percent of the time

He never wants to leave our side, when he rides in the car, he goes by the feet area and goes to straight to bed, we have to wake him to get him out

Love the pupper

It's a fact that different breeds are better for different people and specific breeds are much harder than other breeds. And also have had a puppy. For a week. I'm sure you've experienced all there is to experience now in raising German Shepherds.

No, but we're in the process of buying a house within the next 3-5 months

Thats why we take him out a lot and take him to the park every day

yes--NEXT to the door. not on.

ring it when you take him out to pee each time

he will connect the ringing to being taken outside for bathroom breaks

try not to ring it when youre taking him to the park or he'll just ring it constantly

this is good advice and its easy to train a dog to use it. just hang the bell on the door that leads outside and when you take him out, manually take his paw and hit it against the bell. eventually he will learn to slap the bell when he wants to go out.

Unfortunately we got him through a puppy store. We had no intention of buying, we were just next door getting food. We saw a husky that was really cute and out came running this big German shep after a shower. He was half off the price the lady said because he had already been there like 2 months because nobody was buying him. So I had to take him. All dogs need a home I guess

I'll get a bell today after work thanks for the info guys.thankfully my girlfriend works part time and at night so he's never alone. Some neighbor has two dogs with a giant husky and they were playing for like half an hour yesterday rolling in the grass.

I feel bad we have to leave him with my girlfriends parents house next week because I have to go test for the Vegas PD. Thankfully they have a huge yard with a section dedicated just for dogs. They have 7 dogs including a friendly chow chow and 6 small dogs. So he'll be able to socialize for a while

So not only do you not have a house with a yard yet, but you impulse-bought this German Shepherd because the store clerk guilt-tripped you.

Everyone always wants to throw in their 2 cents like they're a fucking expert. When you have kids its exponentially worse. Complete strangers will give you unsolicited advice.

German Shepard are great dogs, one of the smarter and easier to train breeds. That said, if you're a shitty owner you could have a walking lawsuit on your hands. But that goes for any large dogs really.

I was not guilt tripped, we were considering a dog anyways. I would have left with a husky but I got him instead.

Just because I don't have a yard doesn't mean I can't own a dog you fucking neckbeard. Having a puppy for a couple months in an apartment is not going to hurt him. Especially with how much he goes out. There's people living with 2 big dogs even, in these apartments.my back door is literally is 5ft from a trail.

You can have a big dog with a small house, it all depends on your commitment to it thought.

My dog is 75 pounds and i live in a 2 bedroom apartment but i walk her a shit ton and play with her a bunch so shes not full of energy.

Great Danes are actually considered one of the best apartment dogs so it all depends on your level of commitment

Also its going to get harder, wait till your dog gets comfortable with your house. Its going to start wrecking everything. Chewing through wires, shoes, socks, pillows. It will also start mounting you for dominance and trying to let you know its alpha. I had to cull that shit real quick in my dog to let her know whos boss.
