I think the only season I watched with a famous person in it (besides Brad in BvW but obviously everyone knew who he was) was Cagayan, where IIRC Woo immediately recognized Cliff Robinson. But I don't think he hid it.

Here's a fact for ya though - Jimmy Johnson, probably the highest profile person ever to be on the show, wasn't even a recruit. He's a fan of the show and applied and went through the whole process like any other fan/applicant.

Actually he was supposed to be on a season prior to the one he was on but failed the medical exam.

I mean I think 30 just has a lot a stigma attached to it in general. The scrutiny that that cast came under not just from viewers but from production themselves was unprecedented. Particularly Dan/Shirin/Rodney/Will.

Not to mention Dan shittalking the show in his exit interviews was definitely the worst case of that I've ever seen.

Gabon could have gone completely differently without Bob though. Don't forget it was Bob who started the Kota pick-em. The entire starting tribes could have been completely different and then who knows what would have happened.

Frankly I'm fine with Gabon the way it turned out. Negativity and all. Because when literally everyone is being an asshole to everyone else and not one single person is in the right or wrong, it loops around to being funny instead of mean.

She was likable enough but is generally disliked as a player for laying in bed all summer and refusing to make any moves against the other side of the house. She just let the Austwins and Vanessa roll over her and James without putting up any kind of fight, despite having plenty of opportunities to work with Steve and Johhny Mac to do so.

She was playing for like 8th place, if you could say she played at all.

17 had a bad male cast. The bottom three are all "superfans" that proved why that archetype is terrible, then you have three male halves of showmances that proved to be douchey. Jace was a good character in his one week because he was a trainwreck, and James was a likable guy who actually deserved fan favorite.

For what it's worth, everyone from Glenn down I actively disliked/hated, which is a huge amount for me; compared to Survivor I usually only get 2-4 of those in a 16 person season.

Immediately after the season I had Tiffany at #1 but the more I've thought about it Victor was really the driving force of the season strategically and was the only person keeping the ending even remotely suspenseful; once he was gone for good the game was Nicole's to win or lose, and was probably the genuinely nicest person of the season with a lot of assholes. And Jozea was a great early-boot villain who overplayed his hand and got exactly what he deserved in glorious fashion.

And honestly only my top 3 were the ones I liked for their entire time on the show; everyone else had at least one episode or supplementary material where I went "fuck them," except for Corey who I could not care less about one way or the other.

Man, looking at the boot order on Wiki, I'm now realizing how tough of a road Aubry had throughout the season. The only person come the merge she spent any substantial amount of time with in the pre-merge was moody, loner Michaela.

She said in the RHAP post game interview that she basically was meeting the rest of the cast halfway through the season. Both Mana and NuNuku were decimated.

Yeah - that is why I was saying if she had somehow won in the "legacy advantage doesnt exist" world, the edit would have been incredible because that would have been such a natural story to tell and Aubry is such an amazing narrator.

I wouldn't say he was completely irrelevant. He's basically the only one who aligned with Steve (who hate him or not won the season) and prevented an Austwin and Vanessa final 4. He also aligned with Vanessa temporarily and prevented an Austwin final 3. None of that happens if he just lays in bed like your #3 James.

On top of having RI and 16 players like YoRyan said, it has 2 episodes a round so far it seems (one 55-65 minute episode that includes a bunch of stuff and ends with the RI duel, and another that deals with Immunity Challenge and Tribal Council). Also, it really feels like you get to know everybody so far.

I finished my write-ups for GC today. While writing up the season itself, I came to a realization: the season wasn't GREAT, but there are only four episodes I'd consider truly BAD. And wouldn't you know it, all four of those episodes are ones where the producers decided it was important to highlight a stupid fucking twist instead of character development.

E4: Malcolm gets fucked by the double tribal, which spends twenty minutes on stupid whispering whe we could've gotten character development, or better yet, a less shitty twist.

E6: Sandra's boot episode gets hampered because we have to spend fucking ten minutes on a boat watching Debbie receive pointers from Cochran, who showed up for some reason.

E13: For some reason, the producers decided that an advantage called the "Vote Steal" was non-transferable, resulting in ANOTHER dumbassed "live" tribal council with a completely out-of-nowhere boot. The insanity of Sarah's dumb plan and Cirie's even dumber plan also probably made the Andrea boot boring and predictable so it wouldn't waste time.

E14: Advantage-geddon boots Cirie despite her receiving no votes, and then we get to watch an alliance of three march to the end, unopposed, where we get a questionable change in jury format.

Now, there were other episodes that weren't all that special...but those weren't actively BAD, and in fact most of the average episodes were the result of a weaker character (that probably shouldn't have been cast in the first place) getting voted out (E1, E3, E8, E11, E12).

Meanwhile, E2, E5, E7, E9 and E10 were all above average with E5 ending up as one of the best episodes of the modern era.

Turns out Sarah didn't even know the vote steal was non-transferable. She actually gave it to Cirie to "hold onto" hoping she wouldn't use it.

Pretty laughable given the edit.

Oh, and Probst had no idea either. Apparently they spent a while talking about the twist without anyone knowing it was non-transferable. And then they read the fine print...

Episode 2 was my favorite of the season and one of my favorites of all time.

IMO only two people actually ended up being wasted casting spots. 16/20 deserved to return on some varying degree (ironically, the bottom 3 of those 16 ended up being the F3). Sierra did a seni-Wentworth. Varner gave us one of the most memorable (albeit uncomfortable) episodes of all time. Caleb and Hali were duds that got brought back and stayed duds. In Caleb's case I can at least see why they brought him back but the fact that he was out so early again makes me mad that this was a waste of a spot that could have gone to someone much more deserving while still not changing the archetype of that slot too much, like Fabio, Hayden, or Jon Misch.
