I'm pissing like a drunk, which means I'm using up the last of my glycogen stores. the next few days are gonna suck a little bit, but I'm making sure to stay on top of my water and electrolyte intake to try and mitigate the effects

I've also developed a new appreciation for spinach

I'm replacing the vast majority of my carb intake with fat to shift my body's metabolism into ketosis, meaning that I primarily burn ketones (produced from fat stores) for energy instead of glycogen (from glucose/sugar/carbs)

Been doing this diet for almost 2 years now (with some breaks now and again). Everyone who is looking to lose weight, no matter how much, should be on it.

what's your progress? I'm at a hair over 300 going into this. not sure what my end goal is, since I can't remember how much I weighed when I was "normal" over a decade ago

Stopped counting very early on. I was never actually overweight, but I wanted to get my bodyfat% down more, so I took up this diet. Once you adapt to it, you can basically eat as much food as you like and you'll still be burning fat far more rapidly than any exercise will allow for. It's really bothersome when I see people acting like the diet is "dangerous" or bad for some other reason. You know they just don't have the willpower to stick to not eating carbs, LOL.

keto doesnt burn fat any better than a well balanced diet does.

its just that fatties have to actually count calories and macros(to ensure they stay in ketosis) as opposed to just winging it, which means they're actually in a caloric deficit.

I guess that's why 90% of all pro bodybuilders and up and coming amateurs as well as runway models do keto during their contest prep and photoshoots.

oh wait, no, only lardbuckets from reddit do it and think "keto is magical" when they're just learning to count their macros and calories for the first time in their fat life.

Do you understand what ketosis is? There's just no way you possibly can if you're spouting this rubbish. When you're in ketosis (which you're constantly in while doing the keto diet), your body is literally burning stored fat for energy. There are no carbs in the system so fat is all that's used. Even if you've never done the diet yourself, you should be able to look at these facts and deduce that it will burn fat more efficiently than not being in ketosis.

7 figure salary for telling people to just eat bacon and eggs all day "cuz eating lots of fat means u burn lots of fat".

if by "health industry" you mean people who grow and sell eggs, chicken, beef, greens and avocados, sure. no diet pills here, just a shift to a healthier diet with more controlled portion sizes. it's not much different than a standard low carb diet, except instead of increasing my protein intake to compensate I increase (healthy) fat intake

eggs mixed with bacon or avocado in the morning. alternatively, unflavored greek yogurt. dinner is stuff like chicken, steak, salmon (standard proteins) combined with spinach, broccoli, asparagus, etc. lunch is typically leftovers from the previous night's dinner

the key thing is to minimize carb intake from sources like grains (pasta, bread), starches (potatoes and roots) and sugar. any diet that minimizes or excludes those is fine, so there's no set meal plan that I have to abide to. I just happen to really like eggs

I also intentionally aim for higher fat content using things such as olive oil, coconut oil, and fresh butter. also plenty of salt, at least in the beginning phases (because of the lack of water retention of carbs, I have to increase my water consumption significantly to stave off dehydration, which leads to the flushing of electrolytes like sodium)

There is no doubt that there is strong supportive evidence that the use of ketogenic diets in weight loss therapy is effective [13], however the mechanisms underlying the effects of KDs on weight loss is still a subject of debate.

Keep at it.

I don't know why diet stuff brings out the weirdest most negative trolls on CE, but it certainly seems to.

You do you, as long as you listen to your body and be smart your opinion about how it's going matters a million times more than some bitter shitbird hater on CE.

To be honest, I skimmed through the journal, and then skimmed through the author's work. Wrote a loooot of papers boasting about the effectiveness of the diet, which makes me suspicious, as well as the fact that I didn't see any comparisons or controls using other diets. Published science isn't always science, and maybe I'm just missing something, but I'm not that interested in diet research.

The problem I have with any of these diets, be it keto, low carb, etc, is the fact that you don't NEED to give up these foods you love. Being in a calorie deficit yields the same results regardless of your marco-nutrient split. Now some things will keep you satiated longer, but no single diet is better than others. For anyone who thinks being in ketosis nets more fat loss, link me to some studies, would love to read them.

At the end of the day, find out your TDEE, eat less than that, workout, and bam you will lose weight.

Fats are good at keeping you satiated and keto is a good protein sparing diet. Keep your electrolytes up and eat your vegetables and you should see some decent results by the end of summer. Just remember that you shouldn't go crazy on meeting your fat macros, chase results not ketones.
